Who Is The Team?
This position will be based in Tennant Creek and is responsible for providing confidential
and professional executive support to the President, Elected members and the Executive
Team to ensure the efficient flow of administrative and governance processes. This position
takes direction from the President but formally reports to the Chief Executive Officer. This
role is required to liaise with internal and external customers to provide a high level of
customer service and communication to government departments, non-government
organisations and the Tennant Creek community.
What will you do?










Provide confidential and professional administrative support to the President,
Elected members and the Executive Team, including researching background
information and drafting appropriate responses to correspondence
Manage and maintain an effective and accurate diary and coordinate meetings
Ensure the President is properly briefed and has all information required prior to
attending functions/appointments
Ensure a high level of discretion, maturity, diplomacy and judgment in responding to
inquiries arising from residents, Members of Parliament, Elected members and
Council Staff
Preparation of the monthly President’s report for the Council Agenda
Work with the appropriate staff to coordinate the President’s liaison and responses
to media matters
Establish and maintain a series of templates and processes to efficiently, effectively
and consistently process Presidential correspondence in line with corporate
branding
Liaise with the Chief Executive Officer and the general public to coordinate activities
and maintain free flowing accurate communication
Assist to maintain a positive and open relationship between the President, Council
Members and the Executive Management Team of Council
Help promote the image of Council in all dealings with the Communities and
promote and actively contribute to organisational customer service initiatives






Ensure a customer driven approach by seeking regular feedback to ensure that
community needs are being met and take appropriate action based on the feedback
to promote best practice customer service at all times
Other duties, projects and activities as required to ensure effective and efficient
operations of administration and the President’s requirements
Follow defined occupational health and safety legislation, policies and procedures
Follow defined records management practices, policies and procedures
Some out of hours work to assist with meeting preparation, minutes taking, etc.
As Council conducts every second meeting in Communities across the region, some
overnight travel is required.
Who are you and what is you experience?
Essential Criteria









Demonstrated extensive experience in a similar role, with strong accuracy
Demonstrated capacity in administration processes and procedures, including high
level minute taking and agenda preparation capabilities
Demonstrated capacity in customer service excellence
Ability to recognise sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality
High level written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to
write detailed formal reports and proposals
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet conflicting
deadlines
Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to recognise problems/issues, analyse, formulate and implement appropriate
solutions
Commitment to the development of strong working relationships between the Local
Government, the Barkly Regional Council, Northern Territory Government and the
Local Boards
Desired Criteria




Current knowledge of the Northern Territory Local Government Act and other
relevant legislation
Relevant business Administration qualification is desirable
Experience in Local, State/territory Government processes
A current driver’s license
