Workbook - Bethany A Williams

Session 2 workshop- are you ready to GO GET YOUR
RAISE?
Today you take the final LEAP towards your raise. This is
the exciting final step : Your ASK, preparing your exit plan
and negotiating your raise.
Part 3 : Your Ask, Preparing your Exit plan and negotiate your raise
1.
Preparing an exit plan. STEP 1: Did you call a recruiter while working
through the Session 2 Workbook? If not, do so now:
Go to your LinkedIN profile, and type ‘Recruiter’ into the search bar. Are there any that you
are already connected to? Do you have any stored in your address book? Are there some that
come up in the LinkedIN search that you can ‘Connect’ to?
Tell them you’d like to look at opportunities. Have a conversation.
Do you work closely with a company that you’ve considered working for? Call your contact
there and have a private conversation about your interest to possibly look at opportunities.
Go to Monster.com, careerbuilder.com, or theladders.com and apply for a few positions. An
Exit plan will aid you in your negotiations. LOOK AROUND.

what you want based on your research from video 1. ASK for MORE than you want. You

If this is true- say:
I have a dilemma, I’ve been here for so many years that I’ve fallen below my market
value. I’d love to stay, but I’m being offered more money to work elsewhere. Is there a
way that you can bring my salary back up to my market value? It would require that I
get to $X in annual salary.
If you are negotiating a salary for a place you do not work and they ask you how much you
make, use this strategy:
I wouldn’t leave my current position for less than X.
When you’ve fallen WAY below your correct salary, it is better not to pidgeon hole yourself
into the wage you are making now. Companies consider what you are making now your
value.
Re- Write out your ask:
