Broadcaster Volume 15, Issue 9 BETHANY CHURCH ON THE HILL May 2015 From the Pastor… Celebration Service This Sunday “Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.” (Psalm 34:3) This Sunday, May 3, we will worship together in one worship service. It will be at 10:30 am. If you usually worship at the 9:00 am service, please take note. Plan to come a little later and worship at 10:30. ACTION Serve Day “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) Christians in Ventura County will do just that on ACTION Serve Day, Saturday June 6. ACTION is an acronym that stands for Area Christians Taking Initiative On Needs. Our project is going to be stocking shelves for Manna, our area food shelf. We need up to 20 volunteers to help with that. Volunteers must sign up in advance. You can do that by calling the church office (805-495-7029) or Kathryn Meledy (805-373-1726), chair of our Local Outreach Team. Often the ACTION projects put volunteers directly in contact with people in the community. We would love to have those interactions become evangelistic opportunities. To facilitate that, we will offer evangelism training events in the near future. Welcome Beau Beau Foster will be our interim Jr. High Director through this summer. Beau is a student at Moody Bible Institute. He is from Bethany and has served on our student ministry staff before. It will be great to have Beau back with us on staff for the summer. Thank You Nick “Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’” (Luke 9:23) Nick Zavala told me that’s his favorite verse. And he has been living it out by serving faithfully as our Junior High Director for the last two and a half years. He has done so with enthusiasm, team spirit, a great sense of humor, a love for students, and a commitment to the Lord and His Word. He has been a joy to have on staff. Nick will be leaving his position on May 6. This summer he will be working as the Summer Staff Resident Director at Hume Lake Christian Camp. Then in the fall he will attend Vanguard University. Nick, thanks for serving the Lord and the people of Bethany. I appreciate you and wish you God’s best in all you do. Congratulations BCS Bethany Christian School is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an Anniversary Gala and Auction on May 9 at Ventura Farms. See page 2 for ticket information. FRIDAY MAY 29 7PM HOSTED BY BETHANY CHURCH ON THE HILL DOORS OPEN AT 6:30 $10 AT THE DOOR CHILDREN 10 & UNDER FREE FOOD & DRINK AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ALL AGES WELCOME The 1st quarter financial results were presented to the congregation a few weeks ago. As discussed we got off to a slow start in January and February, however, March Income Offering was strong, enabling us to exceed budget for the quarter. For the quarter, budgeted Income Offering was $110,248, as compared to actual income offering of $114,616 (a positive variance of $4,368). For the quarter total expenses were in line with budgeted expenses. As of the time of this writing, Income Offering for the month of April will likely be off slightly from plan. The Finance Committee and the Leadership Council appreciate your giving and support of the church and its ministries. Giving to the Lord is to be a planned part of our lives, not something that happens haphazardly. In 1 Corinthians 16:1,2 Paul said giving should be regular and suggests that each of us set aside money on a weekly basis. Additionally, Paul says that the amount should be in keeping with their income. The more we earn the more we should give to the Lord. Each of our financial gifts may not be equal but it --John Tolle should represent equal sacrifice. Ghana Matching Gift Challenge Pastor Dan is going July 18-25 on a training outreach to seminary students at ONIM Ministerial and Leadership College in Accra, Ghana. Bethany’s Global Outreach (Missions) Team has established a $500 fund and would like to challenge our members in a dollar for dollar matching support pledge for Dan’s expenses and contributions to the students. Please consider joining the Missions Team in this support effort. If you are unable to provide financial support, please join us in praying for the success of this outreach. Make contributions payable to Bethany with a notation of “Ghana” on the memo line. In advance, thank you partnering with Dan and the Missions Team in reaching the “uttermost parts of the world.” Ongoing weekly events: 7:00 pm 1st & 3rd Sundays 9:00 am Mondays 6:30 pm Mondays 7:00 pm Mondays 6:30 pm Wednesdays 5:30 pm Thursdays 7:00 pm Thursdays VOX (Young Adults), Youth House Praying Mama’s Coffee Hour, Room 201 Boys Scout Troop 787, Community Room Women’s Bible Study, Room 201 Children / Youth Night Worship Rehearsal, Auditorium Choir Rehearsal, Community Room Meetings & events: Saturday, May 2 Sunday, May 3 Wednesday, May 6 Thursday, May 7 Thursday, May 7 Saturday, May 9 Tuesday, May 12 Wednesday, May 13 Monday, May 18 Tuesday, May 19 Tuesday, May 26 Friday, May 29 Ladies’ Tea, 10:00 am in the Community Room Combined Worship Service, 10:30 am in the Auditorium Jr. High Epic Night, 6:30 pm in the Youth House National Day of Prayer, 7:00 pm at the Civic Arts Plaza Lawn Finance Team Meeting, 6:30 pm in Room 201 BCS Gala & Silent Auction, 4:00 pm at Ventura Farms Leadership Council Meeting, 6:30 pm in Room 201 Awana Awards & Ice Cream Social, 6:30 pm in the Auditorium BCS Board Meeting, 6:30 pm in the Library BCS Spring Musical, 7:00 pm in the Auditorium Leadership Council Meeting, 6:30 pm in Room 201 For All Seasons Concert, 7:00 pm in the Auditorium Bethany Church on the Hill 200 West Bethany Court Thousand Oaks CA 91360 BETHANY BROADCASTER Church Newsletter by Would you like to begin receiving your Broadcaster by e-mail?
