volunteers and overall supporters -- we did it together. Complete report coming later.
FROM JERRY ROBINSON, ATTENDANCE COMMITTEE: Remember this a low key 100 percent attendance month.
Your participation as a volunteer at Chocolate Festival can count as a makeup if needed. If no makeup is needed,
your extra effort will be banked. Pick up an attendance brochure at meeting check in table for more make up
ideas as may be needed.
FROM CHRIS BELLUZZO, YARD SALE COMMITTEE: Spring is here at last! That means Spring Cleaning, and a
great opportunity to pick out items for donation for our August Yard Sale! It’s never too early to start getting
things together, so if you find good items be sure to hold on to them. This year we will have some storage space
available ahead of time so if you have something that must go soon let the Yard Sale Committee know!

FROM MIKE SNYDER AND DEWEY ROTENBERRY LOCAL SERVICE: We would like a couple of volunteers to
assemble a study station for Valley Interfaith Child Care. It will take about an hour. See Mike or Dewey to
coordinate times and a day if you can help. This will complete that project for 2015.
Reminder –June 13, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. -- Mountains of Music Celebration at Montgomery Museum. We
will assist with ticket sales and drink stations.
Blacksburg Children’s Museum at 1st and Main has approved the construction of a Grocery Store/Farmers
Market display in the museum by the club. More details on this awesome project to come that will showcase
our club there.
FROM MARQUITA HILL ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE: Remember the chickadees: Believe it or not, we need
healthy insect populations. That is true because 96% of North American birds raise their babies on insects –
especially caterpillars. The Carolina Chickadee needs 390-570 caterpillars a DAY to feed its young of 4 to 6 babies
over the 16 days from hatching to fledging (more than 9,000 caterpillars for one batch of chicks). SO, you need
LOTS of caterpillars in your yard
Question: How to get lots of caterpillars? Answer: plant native shrubs and trees. For example, an oak tree may
support as many as 537 different caterpillar species. If you don’t know which shrubs and trees are native, ask
the person at your nursery, or check the web. Remember the chickadees.
FROM GEORGE MILLER, FOUNDATION COMMITTEE: We are engaged in the annual Spring fund drive for the
Local Foundation. The Local Foundation is how we the members of the Blacksburg Rotary Club pool our
resources to make a positive difference in our local community and the world at large. The Local Foundation has
financially supported a broad range of worthy projects, from college scholarships for Montgomery County
students to emergency shelter for disaster survivors. All told, the Local Foundation has contributed $23,100 in
the last year to support the goals and objectives of the club and its members.
The Club requests that you support the Local Foundation by becoming a “Contributor” with a $100 tax
deductible donation. Donations will be accepted at meetings by Jamie Dunn, Peter Weimerskirch or George
Miller. Donations can also be mailed to: The Rotary Club of Blacksburg, P.O. Box 770, Blacksburg, VA 24062.
Thank you for supporting our Rotary Club foundation.
