A graduate of Blacksburg High School, she received her degree in Art from Virginia Tech. She has a history in biomedical and commercial art, but her love of working with people led to the specialty of fine art portraiture with hundreds of paintings to her credit. Her commissioned works of art hang in public and private collections throughout the United States. Leslie has always been a passionate fan of Appalachia and the people who make it special. She resides with her family on a farm in the Catawba Valley. Michael Abraham is a businessman and writer. He is a native of Christiansburg, Virginia and a graduate of Christiansburg High School and Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has had a varied career in engineering, sales, marketing, business management, and real estate management. He currently splits his time between the management of an industrial condominium in Christiansburg and his writing career. He lives in Blacksburg with his wife, two dogs, and four motorcycles. He and his wife have one adult daughter. FROM MIKE JONES, PRESIDENT ELECT: Our annual club assembly (and dinner!) will be Tuesday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m. Don’t miss out on an evening of fellowship and a first-hand look at plans for the 2015/2016 year! Attendance at Club Assembly counts for a makeup. Our new theme is Be A Gift to the World. FORE PLEASE! FROM THE GOLF TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE: The 15th Annual Rotary Club of Blacksburg Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament is Monday, June 15 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The entry fee is $400 per team/$100 per individual which includes green and cart fee, lunch before the tournament, one mulligan and one raffle ticket. At the conclusion of play, there will be awards for winning teams and a raffle drawing for a variety of prizes including restaurant and store gift certificates, golf passes and signed memorabilia. What we need now is for Rotarians, friends, co-workers, family, etc. to register individually or as a team for the tournament. Registration forms were emailed out and hard copies will be on the table at our weekly meeting. You can mail in your form and entry fee to our PO Box (address is on the form) or you can give it to Aaron Summers or Jamie Dunn at our weekly meeting. If you are not a golfer, there are other ways to get involved with volunteering the day of the event such as helping with registration, monitoring hole in one holes, hosting, raffle prizes, etc. You can also be a hole sponsor for only $100. It would be great to see everyone out at the golf course on June 15th! FROM CHRIS BELLUZZO, YARD SALE COMMITTEE: We have a date! Aug 22. Save your items for donation for our August Yard Sale! It’s never too early to start getting things together, so if you find good items be sure to hold on to them. This year we will have some storage space available ahead of time so if you have something that must go soon let the Yard Sale Committee know! Page 1 of 2 FROM GEORGE MILLER, FOUNDATION COMMITTEE: We are engaged in the annual spring fund drive for the Local Foundation NOW. The Local Foundation is how the Blacksburg Rotary Club can make a positive difference in our local community and the world at large. The Local Foundation has financially supported a broad range of worthy projects, from college scholarships for Montgomery County students to emergency shelter for disaster survivors. All told, the Local Foundation has contributed $23,100 in the last year to support the goals and objectives of the club and its members. The Club requests that you support the Local Foundation by becoming a “Contributor” with a $100 tax deductible donation. ROTARY DISTRICT 7570 POLIO PLUS CELEBRATION IN SALEM: Mark Henrickson of the Salem Club and Janet Johnson, the District Foundation Chair announced that $236,000 had been raised so far with an additional $14,000 to be raised by July 1. Rotary International President Nominee John Germ addressed Rotarians in Salem, VA last night. Paula Alston, Candi Kelly and Christy Brown represented our club. John’s visit was to celebrate District 7570's accomplishment of raising $250,000 for the eradication of polio. Thank you, Salem Rotarians for leading this effort.
