Becoming a Canadian Sport
for Life Community
The community is the first place everyone
experiences physical activity and sport. Canadian
Sport for Life (CS4L) provides the framework to
ensure these experiences are positive and sets
the stage for a lifelong relationship with physical
activity.
Paul Jurbala
Paul Jurbala is a Senior Associate
with Canadian Sport for Life. Prior
to launching his consulting business,
communityactive, in 2005, he held
senior management positions in sport.
Since then he has worked with over
30 national, provincial and community
sport and recreation organizations on
physical literacy, athlete development
programs, and strategic planning and
evaluation. In 2012 he launched the CS4L
Leaders School program to develop a
new generation of Canadian sport and
physical activity leaders. He has served
on a number of Boards and is currently
volunteer Chair of Community Sport
Councils Ontario.
Paul holds a Master of Science degree
in Exercise Physiology and is a Ph.D.
candidate in the Sport Management
program at Brock University, where his
research focuses on community sport
organizations. He is an accredited
facilitator and has taught in Sport
Management programs at York University
and Humber College in Toronto. Paul lives
in Markham, Ontario, Canada.
Community leaders, municipal recreation and
community sport stakeholders are increasingly
concerned about the health and wellness of their
communities.
This workshop will provide an opportunity for crosssectoral collaboration, enabling health, education,
recreation, sport and other stakeholders to work
together, applying the principles of Long-Term
Community Development in their efforts to create
active, productive and engaged citizens.
Topics covered will include the CS4L framework
and physical literacy concepts, Becoming a CS4L
Community Self Assessment and sharing of
CS4L success stories from across Canada.
Participants will return to their communities with
goals, resources and a network to support them on
their path to “Becoming a CS4L Community”.
