6-9 year old Workshops (August 11th-15th)
Beach Scenes in Acrylic with Kimberly Johnston
Kimberly Johnston and is a grade eleven student at Roland Michener Secondary
School. Art has always been fun and interesting for her and she is looking forward to
leading watercolour and acrylic workshops!
Her first workshop is using the unique texture of acrylic paint to create a painting of a
beach. Contrasting techniques are used to show the natural seascape.
Northern Lights in Watercolour with Kimberly Johnston
Her second workshop will be utilizing the blending look of watercolours in a landscape
with northern lights.

Chinese Brush Painting Cheery Blossoms with Kimberly Johnston
Her third workshop will be using the style of Chinese brush painting to emphasize the
blooming flowers.
Watercolour Sunsets with Kimberly Johnston
Her fourth workshop will be using watercolour to create a picture of a sunset over a
reflective body of water.

Pattern Painting with Danielle Ross
This workshop includes creating patterns on canvas with painters tape, then painting in
the sections and creating patterns and colorful combinations before removing the
painters tape creates a unique and beautiful canvas, ready to hang on any wall!
Sharpie Tie Dye T-shirts with Lindsey Gambler
Create a beautiful Tie Dye T-shirt using only Sharpies and rubbing alcohol!

T-shirt Painting with Nancy Tarrant-Wood
Create your t-shirt to show your inner artist! It will teach you how to take your stained
shirt that mom doesn’t like you to wear in public into one that you can!
Tiles with Nancy Tarrant-Wood
Create a one of a kind hot plate or a wall hanging. You get to hand paint your own
creation onto you tile and then it will be sealed and feet placed on it for you.

Abstracts with Nancy Tarrant-Wood
Let your artist out! Learn how to put colors together and create an abstract you will want
in your house!
(This piece was a group piece by Nancy’s kids program (5 – 10yrs) in Athabasca,
everyone had a spot to work and they learned to work together as a group and create a
beautiful piece, Nancy tied it all together for them)
Bow and Arrow painting with Sophia Morningchild
Create a miniature bow and arrows set and then use it to create your very own original
abstract piece of art!

Appliqué Pillows with Amy Rosche
Amy is a retired librarian and loves sewing and doing fun things with kids. Her first
workshop, Appliqué, is sewing layers of cloth together making artistic fabric pictures.
We will be talking about colour, texture, and shapes plus learning some hand sewing
techniques.
Weaving with Amy Rosche
Amy’s second workshop is weaving which is the art of interlacing yarn or threads to
make a piece of fabric. The children will be choosing from several hand weaving
techniques, twig weaving, wire weaving, or circular weaving
Yarn bowls and Lanterns with Marlowe Lindsey
Marlowe Lindsey is a high school graduate who loves art and working with children. The
youth will be working with balloons and yarn to create bowls, lanterns or whatever they
choose. The purpose of this session is to inspire the youth to be creative using fun
colours and designs to create something beautiful with something as simple as yarn.

Yoga with Jaymee Tanasiuk
Come learn some facts about yoga as well as some techniques and positions.
Mime with Jule Asterisk
Jule Asterisk has been a professional dancer, mime, and choreographer for over 30
years. She has performed around Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, and
some parts of Asia.
Jule’s first workshop is Mime, which is the art of showing a story without props or words,
and was first developed my Marcel Marceau in France. We will learn the basic walk
and hand movements, and develop a short mime piece.

Creative Dance with Jule Asterisk
For Jule’s second workshop she will be inspiring the youth to create a piece of dance as
a group. We will have a choice of various different music to move us.
Improvisation with Jule Asterisk
This workshop includes Theatre Sports such as the Three Hats game, Throw a Word,
Reduction, and the History Replay: lots of fun!

Scrapbooking with Leslee Tanasiuk
Come create a decorative scrapbook to put all your different pictures in.
New Zealand Maori Poi Ball with Tracy Thorne
Through two sessions, Tracy "Kelika" Thorne from Edmonton's "A Hawaiian Holiday Polynesian Dance and Drumming Troupe" will be taking the campers on an imaginary
trip to Aotearoa (New Zealand). In the first session the children will learn the history of
the Maori Poi balls and will construct their own soft practice poi. In the second session
campers will learn how to twirl and manipulate the poi balls in basic patterns.

Hawaiian Drumming and Chanting with Tracy Thorne
Tracy "Kelika" Thorne from Edmonton's "A Hawaiian Holiday - Polynesian Dance and
Drumming Troupe" will be taking the campers on an imaginary trip to Hawaii. Haumana
(students) will be learning how to play basic Hawaiian drum beats using the "Ipu"
(Hawaiian Calabash Gourd Drum) and accompany themselves while reciting an "Oli" a
traditional Hawaiian chant.
Oven Bake Clay with Jodie Robinson
Jodie Robinson is a second-year art student at Red Deer College, continuing into
education after getting her diploma. The youth will be working with oven-bake clay. It
comes in multiple colors, so no need to paint them. The clay can't be used for food or
water so it will be crafts-based, though perfectly safe.
Facepainting with Mary Grace Gigantoca Malone
Summer full of fun, let’s start with a smile. Some tickled imagination, will be going in no
time. Time will seem to fly with a bunch of a new generation. Will throw some paints.
And brushes will be in motion. A pretty face in an instant, you’ll see it’s kind of brilliant!

Polymer creations with Rachel Fortin
Rachel Fortin is an aspiring local artist who uses clay as the medium to express her
artistic talent. At just thirteen years of age she has started to manufacture her products
to sell at trade shows, online, and other events. She specializes in making small clay
earrings, charms and pendants. Her creations are so life like that they often look good
enough to eat. She enjoys sharing her talent with other young people who love to learn
what she does.
Pointillism with Maddy Sawchuk
Maddy owns her own Gallary as well as Tattoo shop her in Slave Lake. Learn what
Pointillism is as well as create your very own pointillism picture!
Baby Polymer Animals with Cyndy Lorincz
Come nudge, smoosh, and squeeze polymer clay into cute Baby Animal forms!
Mask Making and Painting with Dru Griffin
Dru will be creating Masks with the youth for the first half of the workshop and for the
second half the youth will be painting and decorating the masks!
Open Crafting with Dru Griffin
This workshop will include a wide variety of possible craft activities! Some of these
include paper lanterns, friendship bracelets, and picture frames!

Rock Painting and Marble Painting with Dru Griffin
This workshop will include two activities. For Rock Painting, the youth will be choosing
their own colours and painting a ladybug on a rock. For the marble painting, marbles will
be covered in different colours of paint and rolled on paper to create beautiful designs!
