FREE EVENT HOSTED BY THE CITY OF MISSION VIEJO 1 WELCOME! This event celebrates the importance of Mission Viejo’s investment in the arts, economy, education and a healthy civic life. The arts help us discover new worlds and explore our own creativity. Art encourages children to love learning, develop a strong sense of self and to “think outside the box.” Nearly a decade ago, the City forged partnerships with arts and cultural organizations, schools, businesses and government agencies to host this grand annual event. The goal is to ensure residents grow up rich in the creative experiences of the arts. Mission Viejo has a wealth of art talent with the potential to bloom. Arts Alive provides such an awesome opportunity. Patrons to this year’s Arts Alive Festival will enjoy a cornucopia of art, culture and entertainment as well as a spectacular new Food & Wine Festival. The Food & Wine Festival will feature a host of local restaurants and caterers, California wines, craft beer and non-alcoholic drinks. He was invited to the event by another artist and fell in love with this dynamic form of art. “I always drew pictures or painted since I can remember … I started with pencil and pen, markers, spray paint and then acrylic paint on canvas,” he said. “Today, I mostly paint acrylic on canvas when I’m not on my knees doing chalk murals.” Having participated in Mission Viejo’s festival along with events in Mexico, Germany, Florida, Arizona, Bakersfield and San Diego, Gus has certainly left his mark on this City and communities around the world. He finds his inspiration from talents like Romero Britto, Pablo Picasso and the many street artists he has met over the last decade. “I enjoy pop arts, anything abstract and I have a fondness for beautiful and bright colors,” he said. Along with street paintings, Gus has created event murals for KIND Natural Snacks at the Anaheim Convention Center, Walking With Dinosaurs at the Honda Center and The Festival of Arts in Palm Springs. When not painting, Gus spends his time working as a manager at the Mission Viejo Michaels store. He says art is more than a passion for him, it’s also therapeutic. “For me art is more than the finished pretty picture you see … it’s years of struggle, pain, laughter, love and hope that go into any mural I paint,” he said. “It’s helped me to heal at some of my most vulnerable times in my life. To me art is love and doesn’t this world need more love? Picasso said all children are artists, the hard part is remaining an artist when we grow up.” 4 2015 SELECT ARTISTS Lori Antoinette Julio Jimenez Moe Notsu Sydney Atwood Shaina Joel Kevin Peterson Kent Baker Maaria Kader Jennifer Ripassa Chris Bennett Renee Keady Bill Speiss Chris Brake Maribeth McFaul William Zin Everardo Galvez Gabriela Moreno Tonie Garza Lury Norris STREET PAINTING Lori Amerio Ricci Amitrano Dane Allebes Anderson Holland Allebes Anderson Lori Antoinette Julianna Arriaga Israel Arzaluz Sydney Atwood Lena Bae Kent Baker Angel Banfill Elora Banfill Chris Bennett Ella Bennett Gary Bennett Annie Boone Chris Brake Kimberly Brake Ayon Emma Calderone Sabrina Campana Sara Campana Christa Catalan Michaela Chapman Brendan Cheng Makayla Chute Deborah Comstock Betsy Diamond Emily Downey Jacque Keith Dubois Alec Enriquez Kelly Figeroa Margie Finona Caitlin Fitter Meg Fix Nathalie Galang Everardo Galvez Kathy Garrison Rafael Garza Tonie Garza Micaela Glackin Molly Glackin Rebecca Goolsby Jane Griffin Sammy Gvurcsik Josh Han Eleonora Hansen Aaron E.
