Risk Mitigation Training
New Professional Development Courses for AEs,
Providers, SCs and SCOs

The mission of the Office of Developmental Programs is to support Pennsylvanians with developmental disabilities to
achieve greater independence, choice and opportunity in their lives.
REISSUE: Please be advised that in the earlier version of the attached announcement the
incorrect information on the two webcasts was presented and the incorrect path to access
them provided. This has been corrected and the announcement is being rereleased. Please
replace the original issued version with the reissued version presented here.
AUDIENCE: Individuals and Families, Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) Direct Service
Providers to individuals receiving Intellectual Disability Services, Supports Coordinators (SCs),
Supports Coordination Organizations (SCOs), Administrative Entities (AE), Consolidated and
Person/Family Directed Support Waiver (P/FDS) participants, advocates and other interested
parties.
PURPOSE: To announce the availability of two webcasts - Foundations of Recognizing and
Mitigating Risk and The SC’s Role in Mitigating Risk as professional development and to provide
direction on accessing these new online learning opportunities.
DISCUSSION:
The Foundations of Recognizing and Mitigating Risk webcast was originally offered online as
required Supports Coordinator Training and was followed up with required face to face training
in the fall of 2014 through the SC Role in Mitigating Risk . The SC Role in Mitigating Risk has

been adapted into a webcast which will be available with The Foundations of Recognizing and
Mitigating Risk as Professional Development courses for all audiences. These webcasts are
being made available in preparation for the release of additional planned face-to-face training
on the AE and Provider Roles in Mitigating Risk in April 2015.
Both courses are now available on the AEIC, PIC, SCOIC, and ODP Consulting websites as part of
the Unraveling the Process of Incident and Risk Management Series and are available on the
SCC in the Professional Development section. Successful completion of each course can earn
one hour of professional development training credit per course on the AEIC, PIC and SCC. The
courses are available for informational purposes (no training credit) on the SCOIC and ODP
Consulting websites.
To access this training (and receive training credit if desired), use the following paths:
Online Course Access
The Foundations of Recognizing and Mitigating Risk and The SC Role in Mitigating Risk
When applicable, learners who complete all course requirements and print a Certificate of
Achievement or request the confirmation email will receive 1 hour of training credit for each course.
