UPCOMING WORKS:
Roe Highway / Berkshire Road intersection, Forrestfield
Continuing throughout April 2015
Before the realignment in mid April, the team will
complete the current staging of the interchange ramps
on the northern side of the highway, allowing them to
shift their focus onto the construction of the
interchange bridge.
To do so, the team will need to temporarily realign the
Roe Highway / Berkshire Road intersection further
north west than its current location (towards the
industrial area). As such, night and weekend works
and major traffic changes, including closures on Roe
Highway and Berkshire Road, are required to facilitate
these works. Please see the related notices for further
information.
Following the realignment, crews will shift further
south into the newly available work area (between the
areas adjacent to Pavetta Crescent and Fruit Tree
Crescent, on the southern side of Roe Highway).
Activities at this location during April will include
earthworks and pavement and bridge construction,
ready for the installation of mechanically stabilised
earth wall tilt panels (MSE walls).
The movement of earth from one location to another,
in conjunction with the installation of the MSE walls,
will start to build up the future Roe Highway road
level, allowing it to travel over Berkshire Road.
On the western side of Berkshire Road (between
Dawson Avenue and Pavetta Crescent), pavement
construction and asphalting will also continue, to
rebuild Berkshire Road.
With noise wall panel installation complete on the
southern side of the highway, finishing touches will
continue to be applied, involving painting of the walls,
adjacent to Fruit Tree Crescent and Sultana Road
East. Reinstatement works will continue on the
residential side of the walls.

Upcoming work details
Works expected to be undertaken in the vicinity of the
intersection during April include:
 Delivery and movement of construction materials,
and earthworks to import and remove fill. This will
take place in the new work area, between the areas
adjacent to Pavetta Crescent and Fruit Tree
Crescent, and on the south side of Roe Highway.
 Road pavement construction, involving delivery,
placement and compaction of sub-base material and
laying asphalt. These works will take place on the
western side of Berkshire Road, between Dawson
Avenue and Pavetta Crescent. These works will also
take place between the areas adjacent to Pavetta
Crescent and Fruit Tree Crescent on the south side
of Roe Highway.
 Painting of the noise walls.
 Ongoing installation and repositioning of traffic
barriers using a franna crane to allow the project
to establish safe work areas to undertake
activities associated with the upgrade. Night
works may be required to facilitate this activity.
 Ongoing works to construct the road network
drainage at various locations, involving trenching
and pipe installation.
 Structural works for the interchange bridge,
including the installation of MSE footings and
concrete wall panels using cranes and other
supporting equipment.
Some of these activities will be undertaken at night
time due to their close proximity to traffic and the
requirement to temporarily close lanes of the
highway.
Changed traffic conditions
Two major traffic changes will be required to facilitate
the relocation of the temporary intersection. The
changes are as follows:
 Full closure of Berkshire Road between Roe
Highway and Harrison Road, from 7pm
Wednesday 8 April until 5am Monday 13 April
2015.

 Full closure of Roe Highway between Tonkin
Highway and Great Eastern Highway Bypass, from
7pm Friday 10 April until 5am Monday 13 April.
Signage will be in place to guide motorists through the
changed traffic conditions.
Other changed traffic conditions will also be in place
throughout April, including a reduced speed limit and
temporary lane closures.
Motorists are encouraged to factor additional time into
their journey. Please visit our website for more details.
Gateway WA endeavors to minimise the presence of
its heavy vehicles on local roads, however use may
need to occur from time to time.
Working hours
Work will be carried out Monday to Saturday day
shift (between 7am and 7pm) and Monday to
Friday night shift (between 7pm and 5am),
excluding public holidays. Weekend work is
required during April to facilitate the construction
of the new temporary intersection and traffic
realignments.
Emergency maintenance and repair work may also
need to take place outside of these times.

works may have on local residents and will make
every effort to minimise disruption.
