National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
On Monday, March 9, while the students were enjoying a day off from school, the Faculty and
Staff had a retreat at Holy Cross Church. After an energetic morning of team building, and a
fabulous lunch, we set to work assembling personal care bags for Mercy Care to distribute to
homeless men in the Atlanta area. Each bag contained a number of single-use items including
soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush and paste, and a razor. With good humor and great
efficiency we were able to assemble 500 personal care bags which were delivered to Mercy
Care later that week. We closed our day with Mass celebrated by Fr. Javier and Deacon Bob.

FORMACION EN LA FE
FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Jeremiah 31:31–34; Hebrews 5:7–9; John 12:20–33
ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK
By the Fifth Sunday of Lent, we are longing for the alleluias of Easter. We
continue on with our Lenten practices, though, knowing that the disciplines help
to root our lives in Christ.
Choose one of the following activities as
a way to further reflect on the Sunday
readings:
We receive a message of hope in today’s First Reading when we hear the Lord
tell Jeremiah that he will write his law in the hearts of his people. “I will be
their God, and they shall be my people,” he says. In this phrase we see an
intimate union born from the love of God. It is a love that Psalm 51 attests is
filled with compassion and goodness.
 Plant flower seeds in small pots, and
Jesus’ words in the Gospel point ahead to the Cross. We hear that Jesus is
troubled and that he will be lifted up. Though anguish fills his words, hope also
is within them. Not only will God be glorified when the hour has come, but
Jesus “will draw all people to myself.” Just as the reading from Jeremiah speaks
of union with God so does the Gospel. We find in this reading from John that
the Father will honor those who serve and follow Jesus.
As Easter nears, we might consider whether we strive to live in accord with the
Jesus portrayed in the Letter to the Hebrews. Jesus, St. Paul writes, prayed with
reverence, learned obedience through suffering, and was made perfect. Do we
seek to be made perfect? As the Second Vatican Council document Lumen
Gentium notes, all are “called to holiness” (39).

No sólo
santidad” (39).
decorate the pots with signs of new life.
Water the seeds carefully. Watch the
seeds grow with your family. Relate
this mystery to the mystery of Jesus’
death and resurrection.
 Talk about ways you are called upon
today to “lose your life.” In what ways
are you reluctant or fearful? Pray for
the courage you need to rise with new
life.
 Select one station of the cross to pray
each day. During family prayer, talk
about what happened at that station and
relate it to the difficulties family
members face today.
ACTIVIDAD DE LA SEMANA
Elija una de las siguientes actividades
para seguir reflexionando sobre las
lecturas del domingo:
 Plante semillas de flores en pequeñas
macetas, y decore las macetas con
carteles de nueva vida. Riegue las
semillas con cuidado. Observen crecer
miedo? Ore por el coraje que necesita
para resucitar a una nueva vida.
 Elija una estación del Via Crucis para
rezar todos los días. Durante la oración
familiar, conversen sobre lo que ocurrió
en esa estación y relaciónenlo con las
dificultades que hoy enfrentan los
miembros de la familia.

STEWARDSHIP
GIVE SACRIFICIALLY
The mission we share in Jesus’ name is that of bringing the Good News to the world. The Good News
is the message of undying, sacrificial love. We are created in God’s image, meant to be a reflection of
Jesus who is perfect, generous self-giving. Like our Lord, we must open our hearts to the will of the
Father, who desires that all human physical, spiritual, emotional, and material needs be met. We know
that such needs will be met through the sacrificial generosity of good and faithful stewards.

March 22: Create your own endowment fund
You can create a fund in your name or honor loves with a beginning investment of $5,000. This and other
gifts to the fund will be tax deductible. You can determine if the fund will benefit the parish in general or a
specific ministry in the parish. When the endowment reaches $25,000 it will pay out to the purpose stated
in the contract. This is a wonderful way to leave a Catholic Legacy, get a nice tax deduction and help the
parish for the future. For more details, contact: Diane Duquette, the Director of Gift Planning at the
Catholic Foundation of North Georgia: 404-497-9440 or email [email protected]. Visit the Catholic
