After an energetic morning of team building, and a fabulous lunch, we set to work assembling personal care bags for Mercy Care to distribute to homeless men in the Atlanta area. Each bag contained a number of single-use items including soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush and paste, and a razor. With good humor and great efficiency we were able to assemble 500 personal care bags which were delivered to Mercy Care later that week. We closed our day with Mass celebrated by Fr. Javier and Deacon Bob. IHM School is still accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year for certain grade levels. We continue on with our Lenten practices, though, knowing that the disciplines help to root our lives in Christ. Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings: We receive a message of hope in today’s First Reading when we hear the Lord tell Jeremiah that he will write his law in the hearts of his people. “I will be their God, and they shall be my people,” he says. In this phrase we see an intimate union born from the love of God. It is a love that Psalm 51 attests is filled with compassion and goodness. Plant flower seeds in small pots, and Jesus’ words in the Gospel point ahead to the Cross. We hear that Jesus is troubled and that he will be lifted up. Though anguish fills his words, hope also is within them. Not only will God be glorified when the hour has come, but Jesus “will draw all people to myself.” Just as the reading from Jeremiah speaks of union with God so does the Gospel. We find in this reading from John that the Father will honor those who serve and follow Jesus. As Easter nears, we might consider whether we strive to live in accord with the Jesus portrayed in the Letter to the Hebrews. Jesus, St. Paul writes, prayed with reverence, learned obedience through suffering, and was made perfect. Do we seek to be made perfect? As the Second Vatican Council document Lumen Gentium notes, all are “called to holiness” (39). © Liturgy Training Publications. 1-800-933-1800. Written by Michael R. Prendergast. Lumen Gentium, del Concilio Vaticano II, nos recuerda que “todos estamos llamados a la santidad” (39). decorate the pots with signs of new life. Water the seeds carefully. Watch the seeds grow with your family. Relate this mystery to the mystery of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Talk about ways you are called upon today to “lose your life.” In what ways are you reluctant or fearful? Pray for the courage you need to rise with new life. Select one station of the cross to pray each day. During family prayer, talk about what happened at that station and relate it to the difficulties family members face today. © Liturgy Training Publications. 1-800-933-1800. The Good News is the message of undying, sacrificial love. We are created in God’s image, meant to be a reflection of Jesus who is perfect, generous self-giving. Like our Lord, we must open our hearts to the will of the Father, who desires that all human physical, spiritual, emotional, and material needs be met. We know that such needs will be met through the sacrificial generosity of good and faithful stewards. - The Stewardship Project, Catholic Life & Faith GIVING UPDATE SECOND COLLECTIONS Week of March 15 Offertory Basket: $25,038.00 Electronic Giving: $4,609.54 Total Offertory: $29,647.54 Catholic Relief Services: $3,278.00 Next week’s Second Collection will benefit the Holy Land.
