Newsletter No. 8 - Term 1– Week 9
th
Thursday 26 March 2015
From the Principal………
Quite a few of our children are members of Holly Caldwell’s String Group. This group
is part of our instrumental music program and they meet at 8 o’clock every Thursday
morning for practice. At the moment they have twelve members which includes a
new member beginning this morning. Today they had a very special event for these
children. Mr Jobst Liebrecht, a Conductor and Composer from Berlin, Germany, who
is visiting Monash University, came to watch our children perform.
The children were very excited and played absolutely beautifully. The children played two pieces,
one is called “Tidal River” and the other was a creative piece that they practiced only this morning. I
have heard the Tidal River piece before and this morning it was just magical. The skills of these
children are astounding! Dindy Vaughan wrote this piece quite some time ago and it is very suited to
the children and their playing ability.
After the children played, our guest was invited to conduct the children in a creative piece. Watching
the children following the conductor so confidently was a joy. We were all very moved by their love
of working with their instruments. Their imagination and creativity shone through when the Professor
conducted the piece and encouraged the children to put their own feelings into their music. It all
created a very special time for the audience.

Before School / After School Care Program
Week 9 – Term 1 - 26th March 2015
Program Update
Guten Tag! This means ‘good day’ in German.
Last week of term! How time flies. What a wonderful term we have all had meeting all of
our new children and reuniting with all of our regular children!
The theme for this week has been Easter fun and games! Children have thoroughly enjoyed
sharing and creating Easter colour-ins, art and craft activities as well as free play and sharing
stories about their day at school. We thoroughly look forward to creating and sharing more
Easter fun with the children for the rest of the term.
A very special event will be happening at OSHClub this Thursday afternoon; the Australian
World Cup cricket team will be taking on the Indian World Cup cricket team in the Cricket
World Cup semi-final and our children will be lucky enough to get a front-row seat for the
match! Both Kalli and Monali thoroughly enjoy their cricket and so will both be cheering on
each team. Good luck Australia and India!
We also have a special afternoon planned for Friday, with all children invited to bring along
a plate of food for our end of term party. The only foods that are not allowed are any
containing nuts; other than that, we warmly look forward to sharing lots of delicious things
with all of our children!
From all the team here at Kalinda OSHClub, we wish all children, parents and teachers a very
safe and happy holiday and we will see everyone bright and early on the first day back of
Term 2!
Kind Regards,
Jeanette Lea, Kalli Boag, Monali Shah.
