1 Newsletter No. 8 - Term 1– Week 9 th Thursday 26 March 2015 From the Principal……… Quite a few of our children are members of Holly Caldwell’s String Group. This group is part of our instrumental music program and they meet at 8 o’clock every Thursday morning for practice. At the moment they have twelve members which includes a new member beginning this morning. Today they had a very special event for these children. Mr Jobst Liebrecht, a Conductor and Composer from Berlin, Germany, who is visiting Monash University, came to watch our children perform. The children were very excited and played absolutely beautifully. The children played two pieces, one is called “Tidal River” and the other was a creative piece that they practiced only this morning. I have heard the Tidal River piece before and this morning it was just magical. The skills of these children are astounding! Dindy Vaughan wrote this piece quite some time ago and it is very suited to the children and their playing ability. After the children played, our guest was invited to conduct the children in a creative piece. Watching the children following the conductor so confidently was a joy. We were all very moved by their love of working with their instruments. Their imagination and creativity shone through when the Professor conducted the piece and encouraged the children to put their own feelings into their music. It all created a very special time for the audience. 2 OPEN NIGHT th Our school Open Night will be held on Monday, 18 May. We hope you all will be able to come along and have a wonderful time with your children as they share their work with you. Please watch for more information in our newsletters next term.
