CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Position Title: Unit: Duty Station: Type of Appointment: Regional Communications and Media Intern Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific Bangkok, Thailand Internship Contract, 6 months Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the principal intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. Context IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, and addressing forced migration. Cross-cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. The key responsibility of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) is to formulate regional strategies and plans of action and to provide programmatic and administrative support to the countries within its region. Regional Thematic Specialists (RTS) in the various areas of migration management including policy and project development are based at the ROAP to fulfill this responsibility. The Communications and Media Unit in the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok provides media, communications, and advocacy support to the ROAP, the RTSs and IOM missions across the region. This announcement is a request for CVs/expression of interest for an internship opening to support the Communications and Media Unit. Scope of Work Under the overall guidance of the Regional Director and direct supervision of the Senior Media Communications Officer / Spokesperson in the IOM Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, the incumbent will be assigned, but not limited to, the following tasks: 1. Support the unit in writing, research, editing, sourcing, collating, and/or rewriting news stories, press briefing notes and web features related to IOM’s work in the region. 2. Assist in the conception and design of a regional newsletter, incorporating news from the RTSs, IOM missions across the region, and the IOM Headquarters. 3. Assist in the production of information sheets and presentations. 4. Support the promotion of IOM information products through social and traditional media. 5. Assist in media relations and providing support to media. 6. Support the planning, logistics and organization of meetings, seminars, trainings and workshops when needed. Provide general administrative and clerical support. 8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Eligibility and Selection The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 19 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The Internship Programme is open to candidates of any nationality. Minimum Experience and Requirements a) Current undergraduate student; b) Flourish in an international, multicultural, multilingual environment; c) Superior communication skills; d) Ability to work both with minimal supervision and hand-in-hand with the supervisor; e) Fluent English writing and communication skills; f) Familiarity with computer programs, including MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher); g) Webpage and social media skills an advantage. Desired Qualifications Experience working in a multi-cultural setting, ideally in a newsroom environment; Demonstrates creativity and initiative with the ability to express ideas; Persistent, calm, and polite in the face of challenges and stress; Accepts and gives constructive criticism; Sensitive to gender issues, personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility. General Information a) Interns are granted a stipend of Baht 9,250.- per month as partial contribution to accommodation and living expenses. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her University or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. b) Any work produced by interns during their internship within the framework of the duties assigned to them should be used for academic purposes exclusively. All economic and moral rights (copyright) pertaining to such work will remain the exclusive property of IOM. c) Internships carry no expectancy of employment by IOM and the intern cannot be appointed to any position with IOM during the period of internship.
