CURRICULUM DAY

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Well, the cold weather has certainly kicked in and it is timely to remind everyone of the importance of layering our clothing. Having
been quite ill myself over the past few weeks this is a topic close to my heart. The classrooms are lovely and warm and it is a shock to
little bodies to hit the cold when the children go outside for recess and lunch. I believe in this really cold weather that a singlet
underneath the school polo and then wearing the jacket or windcheater is a great idea. Please remember to pop some emergency
clothing in your child’s bag – a pair of pants, undies and socks are a great back up if they hit the mud outside.
This week is the NAPLAN testing for our Year 3s and 5s. This testing gives the Federal Government a snap shot of how
students in these levels across Australia are performing. We are very keen not to put our students under any undue pressure and try
hard to balance the need to prepare the students for this testing, so they are not taken by surprise with the design of the test, the
format or wording. Historically our students do quite well on the NAPLAN tests and I am sure it will be the same again this year, but,
as a school, we take more interest in the assessment gathered on our students over the whole semester rather than one test on one
day.
Next Tuesday 19th May is our OGPS OPEN NIGHT. This year we will have the school open between 6 and 7.45pm and we would love
for you to come with your children and celebrate what we are doing here at school. From 6-7pm the classrooms will be open.
From 7-7.45pm our theme is ‘What special things are happening at OGPS? ‘ This is your opportunity to visit various areas around the
school to see the extra curricula activities we offer! Please see the attached flyer for more information. The Foundation 2016 School
Tours will also commence next Tuesday. If you are aware of any families who are planning on joining our Orchard Grove
Community next year, please encourage them to ring the office and book a tour.

¡Bienvenidos! Welcome!

BOOK FAIR
The Book Fair will be arriving at Orchard Grove on Tuesday,
May 19th, which is just in time for Open Night and will be in
the Library for one week. Each year we look forward to seeing
the selection of books sent by Scholastic and all of our students
will have the opportunity to view them during their lessons. With
any book purchase, families will be eligible to go into the draw
for $60 worth of free books, courtesy of Scholastic. The book
sale begins on Thursday, May 21st and will be open each
school day from 8.30am-9.00am and 3.30pm-4.15pm
until Tuesday, May 26th.
This is a wonderful fundraiser for our Library which allows us to
purchase more books and resources with the commission we
receive from Scholastic.
We hope to see you at the Book Fair.
Thank you.

Parent Helpers for the Book Fair
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to assist us with
the Book Fair, but we still need two more parent helpers on the
sales desk. If you are able to donate your time on any of the
days the Book Fair is open, please contact Deb or Sandra in the
Library.
OSHClub
Hi Everyone,
We have been enjoying our time in the Long Room, as
the Autumn chills have set in!
A reminder that the Foundation students are starting to walk
themselves to and from OSHClub in mornings and afternoons.
They have been doing a fantastic job, with the help of our Year 6
kids. This week we are working towards creating new ideas for
OSHClub. Any suggestions are welcome!
During outside play at OSHClub all children are required to bring
a spare hat during term 4 & 1. If it rains, we will be running
games in the PAC.
Children are learning crochet at OSHClub. If your child would
like to participate, we ask that they bring either knitting needles
or a crochet hook. Hopefully, we will have some scarves made
before winter.
We have had some fantastic donations of recycled material and
this week we are looking for any recycled buttons.
We ask that all families donate any recycling materials, including,
but not limited to: boxes (shoe, tissue, anything), books, games,
clothes for dress ups, cushions, blankets.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the
program on 0438 565 727. Calls will be answered/returned
between 7-9am and 3-6pm.
Also, please remember to book your children into the program
online to avoid the casual fee surcharge and assist the program
to be appropriately staffed to comply with regulations. Be sure to
book in early. Have a great week.
