Next week is ‘planning week’, which is the time that our staff
get together and plan their program for the coming term.
This means that the normal specialist program is altered to
allow for a different timetable. So for next week your children
will have all their specialist lessons in one day. Monday will be
Years 1 and 2, Tuesday Years 3 and 4, Wednesday Years 5
and 6 and Thursday Foundation/Prep.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Well with only one week to go of term, we are definitely on
the count down, but with still lots to do.
Our Year 6 campers are having a fabulous time in Canberra,
and are finding it an enormously valuable experience and a lot
of fun too. We look forward to hearing all about the details
when they return. Once again it is wonderful to hear such
terrific feedback about how well behaved Orchard Grove
students are and what marvellous ambassadors they are for
our school.
On Thursday and Friday Leeanne, Michelle and I will be off at
a Principal conference. This is a terrific opportunity to hear
about what is happening in education across the globe. As a
collegiate group at Orchard Grove, we are most definitely
research driven educators, and we realise how important it is
that we acknowledge how fast our world is changing and that
the educational opportunities that we offer your children need
to be best practice, in order to prepare our students for an
exciting, fulfilling future.
This last Wednesday we had our AGM for school Council and
the first meeting of the new Council for 2015. I would like to
acknowledge our School Councillors who give of their time
freely and assist the staff in running our wonderful school. We
look forward to another really successful year ahead.
Just a couple of reminders for next week; Monday is Sushi
Day – orders needed to be in last week, and once again we
had a very keen response – who doesn’t like sushi!! We have
our school photos on Thursday; please make sure that your
child comes to school in full school uniform and, for our girls,
all hair accessories must be in our school colours. Finally, on
the last day of school we have our fundraiser for ‘ Very Special
Kids.’ This is a charity that is very close to the heart of the
OGPS community having witnessed the great support that
they gave Isla and her family during her illness. This is a
lovely opportunity for us to remember Isla and support ‘Very
Special Kids’ so that they can continue in the great work that
they do. It is a dress up day, ‘Super Hero’ theme for a gold
coin donation. Please remember that it is a 2.30 finish on the
27th March. If you need child care because of the early finish
please book online at oshclub.com.au.
You may remember the petition for our school upgrade that
our School Council sent out in the newsletter two weeks ago.
Margaret is collecting those sheets, so, if you have a filled
sheet, please return it to the office and grab another blank
one. School council is hoping to collect around 2000
signatures. Remember any Victorian citizen, including
children, can sign the petition.

SPANISH CORNER

Señora Brady´s off to Spain!
This week I fly to Spain for a three week course in Spanish
language, culture and pedagogy at the Universidade de Vigo in
Galicia in north-western Spain. This is the in-country component
of the Language Teaching Scholarship I was awarded by the
Department of Education last year. While there, I will visit the
San Crespo Colegio in Padrenda, a small village in a beautiful
mountainous setting. The Grade 5 students here have been
preparing projects for me to take and share with the Spanish
students and I will collect projects they have been preparing for
our students. I am looking forward to sharing the cultural
experiences I will have on this trip, as these opportunities for real
life experiences in Spanish are invaluable for all our students.

be given.
LIBRARY NEWS
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is now underway and students
have received permission forms which need to be returned to
your child’s classroom teacher before the end of term.
Students who are participating in the Challenge will receive
usernames and passwords along with information on how to log
the books they read online early next term.

‘The Lemon Exchange’ is a school
community service for Orchard Grove
families - where those who have an
abundance of lemons donate some, and
those that may need a lemon or two can go
and collect a few.
The Junior School Council is organising a dress up day to raise
funds to support Very Special Kids. Very Special Kids is a
children’s charity that supports sick children and their families.
On the 27th of March (the last day of term), we ask that children
come to school dressed up as a superhero! They can come as
one of many familiar characters, or they can get creative and
invent their own fabulous superhero!
Please bring a gold coin donation. All funds raised will go to Very
Special Kids to help them with supporting sick children and their
families through the hardest time of their lives.
WOOL DONATION
If anyone in the community has ANY wool of ANY sort that they
are willing to part with, please contact Erin Ward (5/6W).
I will be running a knitting club for Level 5 & 6 as of Term 2, and
we would LOVE some wool donations!

UNIFORM SHOP
We are still waiting on the size 14 sports t-shirts, which should be
here by the end of the term. Other items that are out of stock
have been ordered this week and should be here by the end of
term also.
The next second hand uniform sale will be on Wednesday, 29th
April from 9.15 - 9.45am in the Community Room.
FIJIAN VISIT
So... we need lots of generous lemon tree owners to again drop
off any spare lemons to the box located near the staffroom. You
can be sure that your lemons will find a good home and help
make something tasty even more delicious. Thank you.

We have been so lucky these past few weeks to have had the
Fijian Rugby players from Island Breeze and Box Hill Rugby Club
come and teach touch rugby skills to the Year 5 and 6 students
and share some of their rich cultural traditions with the younger
students. They have made such a positive contribution to our
school and we hope to invite them back again to continue our
partnership.

It is hard to believe that the football season is upon us. Orchard Grove is fortunate enough to have its own Auskick program that
runs on a Saturday morning from 9.30 to 10.30 commencing 18 April, registrations are now open.

During the year we have games for the kids against Mums and Dads, regular sausage sizzles, guest appearances from AFL stars

friends of Orchard Grove to participate in the fun.
