FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This week is Education Week and we had a fabulous Open Night on Tuesday. It is always fun to showcase the school and celebrate
what we are doing here. We had 3 school tours with well over 100 people in attendance over the day, coming to hear about what we
are doing at OGPS.
The feedback from the visitors was so encouraging and it would appear that our reputation is growing significantly and our hard work
is being recognised. I am very proud of our school; I sincerely love being part of this community, partnering with you all together and
with my staff to help you in preparing your young children for their futures – very exciting!
Enrolments are now being accepted for Prep/Foundation 2016. Spots will fill fast so, if this applies to you, please make sure you have
the Enrolment Pack from the office and get the forms back to Margaret ASAP.
It was also sensational that, on Open Day, we were able to offer an amazing opportunity for 30 lucky students. Every year around
Australia, Moran Art Prizes, a philanthropic organisation, offers a unique opportunity for primary and secondary students to participate
in photographic workshops and a competition. To be part of this program, schools must apply. Given that it is a nation-wide program,
it is quite a challenge to have your application accepted. However, fortunately for us, this year Orchard Grove was selected. Thirty
students from Years 4, 5 and 6 were chosen by Rosie Campbell to attend the day, hosted here at school, and run by a professional
photographer, Nicki Jackson. Each student was given a camera for the day and taught how to use the various functions of the camera
to best effect. They were then asked to think carefully about their photos and use the 'Contemporary Life' idea as a theme for their
shots. The students could choose their five favourite images and print them to take home. All their photos will be entered into the
schools competition and in November we will hear if any of our students are nominated as finalists. The prize is a camera and the
honour of having your photo feature in a Sydney exhibition. Our students worked beautifully with the photographer and she was very
impressed with the quality of their work. Congratulations to all who were fortunate to participate in the day's workshop, and fingers
crossed for the competition. Thank you to the Moran Art Prize organisation for giving our students such a wonderful experience.
Applications will open again soon for the coming year so we will apply and perhaps more students could be part of a unique
experience.

Our delightful Mrs Amanda Delahenty is
leaving OGPS on maternity leave on Friday. We would like to take
this opportunity to wish her all the best for the impending birth
of her baby and her entry into the most important job of all –
Motherhood. Amanda will be sadly missed here at school and we
thank her for being such a valued member of staff and a
wonderful teacher to so many of our students over the last 4
years. We certainly will look forward to hearing when the baby is
born. On the flip side we are very excited to announce that Ms
Christabelle Toohey is joining our staff and will be taking
Amanda’s grade. Christabelle is an experienced teacher and
brings with her much enthusiasm and a terrific skill set. I know
she will fit in beautifully here at OGPS and look forward to her
getting to know all of you.

how the children have been teaching Spanish at home. Some
resources you can access at home include the websites
Rockalingua and Languages Online and free language apps
Babbel, Busuu, Duolingo and Spanish Smash. Keep it up,
fantástico.
BOOK FAIR
The Book Fair has arrived in the Library and we have an excellent
selection of books available for Foundation through to Year 5 and
6. Students will have the opportunity to view the books
during their lessons and write out a wish list. The wish list is
merely a guide for parents if you want to purchase any of the
books and is not an obligation to buy. Wish lists will also be
available to fill out in the Library and are needed if you want to
be entered into the draw to win the $60 worth of free books,
compliments of Scholastic.
The Book Fair sale opens today, Thursday, May 21st and will
continue until next Tuesday, May 26th. Sale times are from
8.30am-9.00am and from 3.30pm-4.15pm.
We hope to see you at the Book Fair.

CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all the students who represented Orchard
Grove in the district cross country on Friday. We came 3rd out of
all the schools! The weather held out and made for great cross
country conditions at the Ruffy Park track. The district course is a
much hillier course than the school track, but this did not deter
the runners, with most of the team finishing in the top half of the
64 strong field of runners.
Several students progressed to the division stage after placing in
the top ten of their age group.
Congratulations to the following students for progressing to the
next stage.
