About the Peri-Urban Agriculture Program
We aim to build a food system that is healthy, just, and sustainable. As such, our agriculture projects are designed to support local
and organic agriculture, while assuring that such foods remain accessible to all regardless of socio-economic status, level of
mobility, or degree of autonomy.
Santropol Roulant's peri-urban farm in Senneville provides fresh, local and organic vegetables for our meals-on-wheels service,
our weekly organic baskets and our neighbourhood market. Furthermore, as part of Entre grange et gratte-ciel: Santropol
Roulant's Urban-Rural Farm Exchange, the farm provides opportunities for urban-dwellers to connect with the source of their
food, with a particular focus on youth from marginalized communities that are traditionally under-represented in leadership
positions in the Quebec organic farming context.
About the position
Santropol Roulant is seeking a motivated and energetic young person (16 to 30 yrs old) to join our team as Farm Intern and
Market Coordinator. In addition to working 2 days per week on the farm, the candidate will be responsible for managing
Santropol Roulant's weekly farmer's market, assisting with our in-office store, and running our market stand at the Marché
Citoyen in Little Burgundy.
This unique position offers the candidate a hands-on experience with peri-urban farming, combined with an opportunity to
experience the marketing, distribution, and sales components of a diversified organic farm. As part of our organization's mandate
to increase the accessibility of locally grown organic food, a key aspect of this position will be strengthening our connections with
the Little Burgundy community through our partnership with the Marché Citoyen.

Primary responsibilities include:
Market Responsibilities:
 Work with volunteers to set up, display produce, manage sales and inventory, and tear down the weekly Santropol Roulant
farmer's market
 Maintain the produce section of Santropol Roulant's General Store, stocking items as necessary
 Representing Santropol Roulant and the farm at the Marché Citoyen every second Saturday
Farm Responsibilities:
 Contributing to farm upkeep and maintenance (caring for seedlings, transplantations and direct seeding, weeding, pest
control, staking, pruning, thinning, etc.)
 Harvesting vegetables and preparing them for market
 Participating in, and then leading community tours and groups of children at the farm
 Supporting volunteers' participation in the work at the farm
As this position is geared towards individuals that are looking for a first experience in agriculture, no gardening,
horticulture or farming experience is necessary.
We are looking for candidates with the following skills, interests and experiences:
 Interested in learning about farming
 Connection to and good knowledge of the Little Burgundy community and the Café Citoyen
 Experience in retail or customer service
 Comfortable handling cash and making mental calculations
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills
 Desire to work collaboratively with a team
 Capacity for physical labour
 Ability to work independently and take initiative
 Comfortable working with children
 Comfortable working outside in variable weather conditions
 Punctual and committed to arriving on time
Skill development Santropol Roulant is offering:

Contract Details:
This is a paid position with the following schedule:



20 hours / week from May 4th to June 12th composed of 2, 10-hour days at the farm (includes paid travel time to and from
the farm)
35 hours / week from June 15th to September 5th composed of 2 days at the farm, 1 day at the Santropol Roulant market,
and every second Saturday at the Little Burgundy Marché Citoyen market.
25 hours / week from September 7th to October 3rd composed of 1 day at the farm, 1 day at the Santropol Roulant market,
and every second Saturday at the Little Burgundy Marché Citoyen market.
Dates and schedules may be flexible. The farm is accessible by train from Montreal (followed by a short bike ride). The position
is remunerated at a wage of $12 per hour, plus the cost of travel from Montreal to St-Anne-de-Bellevue.
This position is funded by the Fonds régional d'investissement jeunesse (FRIJ). Applicants must be between 16 – 30 years of age.
