Lavender Hill Studios – Thursday 29 May 2014
Join the Emmanuel Society for an evening of fine art
and fabulous conversation. Lavender Hill Studios

portrait painting demonstration against a backdrop of
art materials and worn wooden floors. Enter a world
of beauty and watch as Ann Witheridge, co-founder of
the Studios and former Cambridge graduate, captures
the model on canvas. You will have the chance to ask
questions as the process unfurls and Ann will talk her
audience through the key points of interest. There
will be plenty of time before and after for catching up
over wine and canapés, and for those keen to try their
hand there will be the opportunity to do so afterwards.
Drinks will be served from 6.30pm. The portrait
painting demonstration will start at 7pm and
afterwards there’ll be more drinks and canapés.
Lavender Hill Studios were founded in 2004 and
are the first atelier in the UK. They are home to an
exceptional community of figurative artists training
in traditional oil painting techniques. See www.

FUTURE EVENTS

Emma Business Forum
In May we held our first Entrepreneurs’ Forum at
Shoreditch’s ‘Book Club’ venue, near to London’s
‘Silicon Roundabout’. An expert panel including Jack
Lang (Judge Business School, Raspberry Pi), and
chaired by author and journalist Rachel Bridge were
put through their paces by an enthusiastic audience
of more than 60 Members. From the online survey
that we ran after the event it was clear that not only
did Members want to have more of this type of event
but that there was a lot of support for the setting-up
of an Emmanuel Business Forum.
From the feedback so far, the Forum might comprise:
• a LinkedIn group to share basic contact
details, skills and information about business and
entrepreneurial activities; and
• events that provide opportunities for networking
and in-depth discussion, targeting specific business
sectors, strategies and issues.
Please help us to establish the Business Forum by
emailing the Emmanuel Society Office, emmanuel-
your contact information and details about your
key areas of interest so that we can plan to
meet demand. Those who attended the Secrets
of Entrepreneurship event in May will receive
an email inviting them to participate. Please
also let us know if you would be willing to lead
discussions on specific issues. Topics requested
so far include start-up strategies, recruiting,
growing/scaling a business and growing business
abroad. Can anyone offer a seminar room in their
London office as a venue for Forum meetings?
We look forward to hearing from you and getting
the Emma Business Forum off the ground.

CAREERS
Careers Database www.emma.cam.ac.uk/careers
The Emmanuel Careers Database needs you!
The careers database on the Emmanuel website
offers the chance for both current and former
students to get in touch for careers advice and
networking opportunities.
More than 450 people working in areas from
academia and accountancy right through to
writers and vets have already added their details.
the students then got the chance to ask individual
questions about applications and interviews.
There was a real buzz of enthusiasm in the room
(not just from the wine), with many people bringing
along CVs for review and advice. This is the third
year the workshop has run, and it proved the most
successful yet, with many thanks to all who gave
their time, effort and energy to make it happen.
The Emmanuel Society would value your help at
the annual careers workshop organised with ECSU
and the MCR, focused on CV writing, filling in
application forms and interview skills.
Whenever you matriculated, if you could spare
a few minutes to add your details, or update an
existing entry, just go to: Please contact [email protected].
