regard. If you move or change your telephone number, please

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS
“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one
body, for we all partake of the one bread.”
1 Corinthians 10:17
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives
and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves
a twofold purpose. One, it helps build God’s kingdom
here on earth. Two, it is a road map to Heaven. Let’s
help each other get there!

Holy Communion
The Body and Blood of the Lord
Jesus
The Mystery of the Holy Eucharist: In a
preeminent way the Eucharistic Liturgy uses the signs of
bread and wine in obedience to the Lord’s command and
after their transformation gives them to us as the Body
and Blood of Christ in the act of communion. It is by
taking and sharing the Eucharistic bread and chalice “signs perceptible to the senses” - that we obey the
Lord’s command and grow in the likeness of the Lord
whose Body and Blood they both signify and contain.
Holy Communion Under Both Kinds: From the
first days of the Church’s celebration of the Eucharist,
Holy Communion consisted of the reception of both
species in fulfillment of the Lord’s command to take and
eat….take and drink.”
The distribution of Holy
Communion to the faithful under both kinds was thus the
norm for more than a millennium of Catholic liturgical
practice.
The extension of the faculty for the distribution of
Holy Communion under both kinds does not represent a
change in the Church’s immemorial beliefs concerning
the Holy Eucharist. Rather, today the Church finds it
salutary to restore a practice, when appropriate, that for
various reasons was not opportune when the Council of
Trent was convened in 1545. But with the passing of
time, and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the
reform of the Second Vatican Council has resulted in the
restoration of a practice by which the faithful are again
able to experience “a fuller sign of the Eucharistic
banquet.”
When Communion Under Both Kinds May be
Given: The Diocesan Bishop has the faculty to allow
Communion under both kinds, whenever it seems
appropriate to the Priest to whom charge of a given
community has been entrusted as its own pastor,
provided that the faithful have been well instructed and
there is no danger of the profanation of the Sacrament or
that the rite would be difficult to carry out on account of
the number of participants or for some other reason.

LEAVE A LEGACY MONTH
June is “Leave a Legacy” month in the Diocese
of Norwich. It is a wonderful time to remind
parishioners in the Diocese about the value of
charitable estate planning. Some people choose
to mark their legacy by requesting gifts in memoriam to their beloved parish upon their passing,
including a bequest in their will to support the
many programs and ministries of the Church, or
a beloved Catholic School. If you are interested
in learning more about how you can leave a legacy, please contact MaryLou Giannotti, Director
of Planned Giving for the Diocese of Norwich at
860-886-1928 ext. 15 or email her at
[email protected].
Forgiveness is not an occasional act.
It is a permanent attitude. ~ Dr. Martin

BULLETIN BRIEFS
“That special power of loving that belongs to a woman is
seen most clearly when she becomes a mother. Motherhood
is the gift of God to women. How grateful we must be to
God for this wonderful gift that brings such joy to the
whole world, women and men alike! Yet we can destroy this
gift of motherhood, especially by the evil of abortion, but
also by thinking that other things like jobs or positions are
more important than loving, than giving oneself to others.
No job, no plans, no possessions, no idea of ‘freedom’ can
take the place of love. So anything that destroys God’s gift
of motherhood destroys His most precious gift to women—
the ability to love as a woman.” ~ Blessed Mother Theresa,
Letter to the Fourth World Conference on Women, Beijing,
1995
DIOCESAN PRO-LIFE MASS
Please join us and our Celebrant, Rev. Ray Introvigne,
at Mass at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich on
Saturday, July 5th ~ 8:30 a.m. as we pray to end abortion and for the healing for those who have had an abortion. Following the Mass, the Rosary will be prayed
both at the Cathedral and Planned Parenthood. A
brunch will follow the Rosary at the Cathedral.

Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
On Holy Thursday our commemoration of the Holy
Eucharist was part of our celebration of the sacred Paschal
Triduum. Today we get to focus exclusively on the Holy
Eucharist in this celebration of the Body and Blood of
Christ. This mystery is at the heart of our identity as
Christians. Gathered here today, let us give special thanks
and praise to God for this wonderful gift of God’s
continuing presence in our midst.

Defending Our Religious Liberty
#120 June 15, 2014
The United States Conference for Catholic Bishops has designed
the third annual Fortnight for Freedom from June 21 to July 4th to
raise awareness for religious liberty. Please consider the following prayer.
Prayer for Religious Liberty
Almighty God, Father of all nations, for freedom you have set us free
in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1). We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote
our liberties; By your grace may we have the courage to defend them,
for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness, And in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.
If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to
the mandate by calling President Obama at the White House at
202-456-1111 or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services at 202-205-5445. Let them know that the mandate is in
violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom.

vacation and would like to continue your Sunday
Offerings, you can do so through our On-Line Giving
Program.
It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s efficient and
it’s completely secure!
Go to our website: www.saintpatrickeh.org, click

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Ordinary Time beckons, and so on this Sunday we
surrender the last glimmers of paschal joy as we celebrate the
renewal of our life around the table of the Eucharist. This feast
reminds us that the goal of the catechumen’s journey through
Lent is not the baptismal font at Easter, but rather the
experience of Pentecost. It is all about life lived in the Spirit’s
embrace in relationship to the Body of Christ, which is found
both “on the table” and “at the table.”
The season of confirmation is also drawing to a close,
and this feast serves as a reminder that this sacrament, a
solemn sending from font to table, is keyed to renewed vigor.
Confirmation has sometimes been sadly misunderstood as a
kind of graduation from religious formation, but it is nothing
of the sort. It is about being led by the Lord Jesus to the place
where the Spirit flourishes, and where the gifts of the Spirit are
most easily detectable. After next week we will resume our
consideration of the sacrament of confirmation, its rich and
somewhat tangled history, its challenging theology, and its
changing celebration. — Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Combined Collection for World Charities
The Combined Collection for World Charities will be hald

to these programs of the Universal Church.

Matrimony
A beautiful sacrament full of
blessings, romance, love, commitment, comedy,
giving, new life, joys, sorrows, adventure, challenges,
responsibilities, growth, memories and more.
What greater thing is there for two human souls than to
feel that they are joined for life - to strengthen each other
in all labor, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister
to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent,
unspeakable memories at the moment of the last parting.
(George Elliott)
The heart of marriage is memories. (Bill Cosby)
