Sunday June 11th 2006 - The Most Holy Trinity
Together, we pray for the sick,
those in hospice, the hospitalized and
the homebound of our parish:
“By recognizing Christ in our brethren, we are preparing to be
recognized by Him at His final return. This is how the Christian
community prepares for the Lord’s second coming: by focusing
on those persons whom Jesus himself favored, those who are
often excluded and ignored by society.”
Pope John Paul II: Words To Live By.

JESUS IS LORD!
On Pentecost
"The Whole Church Is Only One Great
Movement"
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Last weekend we celebrated the Solemnity of
Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended on the Church
and gave it new birth. As we look to the first Christian
Community recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, we read
that the first fruits of Pentecost in the infant Church were
unity and community. The Holy Spirit brings various peoples together to make them one mind and one heart (Acts
4). Let us always commit to pray daily to the Holy Spirit
that as the parish community of St. Raphael- Holy Angels
we may be united as the one body of Christ that we are
called to be. COME, HOLY SPIRIT!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you
for your prayers, cards and expressions of love and support as I celebrated my tenth anniversary of ordination to
the priesthood on the Vigil of Pentecost. It is awesome to
be a priest, and I am grateful to God that he has called
me to serve here at St. Raphael-Holy Angels. You are
such a blessing to my life. I would like to say a special
“thank you” to the anniversary committee who work so
hard on planning the Mass and reception, and to the wonderful combined music ministry of St. Raphael-Holy Angels who led us in Spirit-filled worship during the Mass.
Words cannot properly express my gratitude. I humbly
ask for your continued prayers that I may have the grace
to unite myself more closely with the High Priest Jesus
Christ. COME, HOLY SPIRIT!
Speaking of gratitude and priesthood, I have
been notified by Bishop John Smith that he has assigned
Father Leandro Della Cruz as Adjunct Priest to serve the
people of St. Raphael-Holy Angels. Father Della Cruz will
arrive on June 16, 2006 to begin his new assignment. He
presently is serving as Adjunct Priest at St. Mary of the
Lake in Lakewood. I am grateful to Bishop Smith for recognizing our need and assigning another priest to minister at our parish. Our parish community also welcomes
Mr. John Large, a seminarian for the Diocese of Trenton,
who has been assigned for the summer to our parish.
John has just completed his first year of theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary and is scheduled for ordination to the priesthood in 2009. COME, HOLY SPIRIT!
Finally I would like to congratulate our students
who graduated from St. Raphael School this past Friday
evening. They are an outstanding group of young men
and women who came together from various backgrounds and schools and united to form a close knit
group of friends in our school community… just like the
first community did at Pentecost! Let us pray that the
Lord richly blesses them as they enter high school.
COME, HOLY SPIRIT!
In Jesus and Mary,
Father Jeff Kegley
Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
The solemnity of Pentecost invites us to go back to
the origins of the Church, which, as the Second Vatican
Council affirmed, "by the outpouring of the Spirit, was made
manifest" ("Lumen Gentium," No. 2). At Pentecost, the
Church was manifested one, holy, catholic and apostolic; it
was manifested missionary, with the gift of speaking all the
languages of the world, as the good news of the love of
God is meant for all peoples.
“The Church, which the Spirit guides in the way of
all truth and which he unified in communion and in works of
ministry, he both equips and directs with hierarchical and
charismatic gifts and adorns with his fruits" (ibid. 4).
Among the realities aroused by the Spirit in the
Church are the ecclesial movements and communities, with
which yesterday I had the joy of meeting in this square, in a
great world gathering. The whole Church, as Pope John
Paul II liked to say, is only one great movement, animated
by the Holy Spirit, a river that goes through history to water
it with the grace of God and to make her life fruitful in goodness, beauty, justice and peace.
I am happy to greet all the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors. Today we celebrate the great solemnity
of Pentecost, when the risen Lord filled the Church with the
gift of his Holy Spirit to bring peace and joy to all mankind.
Let us open our hearts to this great gift, so that we may
continue to teach the Gospel and do the Lord's work in today's world. Upon all of you I invoke God's blessings and
wish you a holy and happy time in Rome!

The Holy Rosary is prayed daily at St. Raphael Church, Monday to Friday after the 7:30am
Mass and on Saturday after the 8:00am Mass.
An invitation is extended to everyone to remain for a few minutes after Mass to pray with
us. Holy Mary, the Mother of our God, intercedes for us and bestows all the graces we
need. We meet on the right side of Church facing the icon
of Mary and Jesus and we begin praying the rosary immediately after Mass. We sincerely hope you will join us.

Please remember our neighbors who are in
need when you do your weekly grocery
shopping, and consider purchasing one extra
item to donate to the parish food pantry. It is
our goal to keep our shelves well stocked so that we never
have to turn away a family who reaches out to us for assistance. All types of non-perishable food items are always appreciated, as well as personal care, household cleaning and
paper products. Monetary donations are also most welcome as
they allow us to purchase items from the Mercer Street
Friends Food Bank to supplement our supply.
Upcoming “Reach-Out Saturdays”June 17th and July 8th
Please See an Usher
If you have an emergency or if you are
disabled and need assistance. Also, if

I would like to thank everyone who made the celebration of the 25th anniversary of my ordination such a
memorable event in my life. Fr. Jeff, my brother Deacons, those who setup the church, the music ministry
that added so much to the Mass, the people who set
up the hall and those who arranged for the great
breakfast food. Words cannot express the gratitude
that I have for each one of you. To everyone who
offered congratulations and best wishes, thank you
for your kindness. You continually show me how
blessed by God I really am. Praise God, he has placed
so many wonderful people in my life. Thank you for
letting me be just a small part in each of your lives.
Thank you again and may God Bless each and every
one of you.
