A father-and-son road movie, Magic Men tells the story of a man and a grown son with opposing religious views. When the father, a Greek Holocaust survivor and an atheist, is sent to Greece for a twin-city ceremony, he decides to search for the man who sheltered him during World War II. His Hassidic rap musician son tags along in the hopes of reconnecting with his father. The journey opens old wounds and forces the pair to confront each other and to close the gaps between them. During the height of the Second Intifida in 2002, Ruthy, a mother, is witness to a suicide attack in the Machane Yehuda market. She decides to take action and protect her family from the violent reality in which they live. Director Aner Preminger presents the civilian side of coping with Israeli life by showing how each family member reacts to their situation. Hanoch, the director of a kibbutz amateur theatre, dares to do something that his fifty fellow kibbutzniks would find unacceptable: to dream. Hanoch wants to direct a Hebrew performance of a play originally written in Yiddish and wants Israel’s most famous actor, Aharon Surkin, to attend.
