בס"ד שבת פרשת ויחי Beis Medrash Ahavas Shalom HaRav Avraham Baruch Zachariash, Sh’lita, Rav Jan 2/3 ‘15 התשע״ה,י״ב טבת Good Eye, Good Eye The idea of an ayin hara seems to always be on our minds. Many of us are even aware that it has halachic ramifications in regards to hezek ria, meaning that one can damage someone else’s property simply by gazing at it. People often scramble to find ways to overcome this “jinx.” For example, when someone looks at the good of another, and wants the force of their “gaze” to be only with an “ayin tov” or a benevolent eye, a common approach is to say “bli ayin hara.” That will hopefully keep the “ayin hara” – the “evil eye” away. מהשולחן של הרב אברהם ברוך זכריש תורגם לעברית על ידי רב יואב דרויאן ראיה לא רעה נושא של עין הרע הוא לא איזה מושג נידח .אלא משהו שמתייחסים אליו כמעט כל יום ישנם אפילו נפקא מינות להלכה בסוגיית "היזק ? אז איך בדיוק מתגברים על תקלה זו."ראיה What isn’t mine I will not even look at In this week’s parsha we have the pasuk Ben Po rat Yo sef (Bereishis 49:22). Rashi explains this phrase as someone that has chein - grace. Medrish Yalkut (161) says that one learns from ben p orat that an ayin hara does not affect Yosef’s children. Therefore, we give the blessing “ben porat” so that an ayin hara should not affect the person. The Chida teaches us that not only does someone like Yosef suffer no negative effects from an ayin hara, but he actually has the ability to change it so that it affects him positively – as if it were a brocho. This explains the root of “Ben Porat” as coming from the words “pru urvu” meaning “be fruitful.” ה בזמן שמישהו זוכה למבט הערצה כל שהוא – ואינו,למשל מעוניין שמבט זה יביא איתו גם קטרוג של עין הרע – נהוג ."להגיד "בלי עין הרע בפרשתינו מוצאים אנחנו את הציטוט "בן פורת יוסף" ]בראשית הילקוט. רש"י מבאר את התואר כמי שיש לו חן מסויים.[כב:מט .במדרש ]קסא[ מביא שעין הרע אינה פוקדת את זרעו של יוסף .לכן נוהגים לברך אדם בברכת "בן פורת" בכדי שינצל מעין הרע אבל, שלא רק שאין יוסף ניזוק מעין הרע,מלמד אותנו החיד"א הוא מסוגל להשתמש בראיה זו להשפיע על עצמו בחיוביות מכאן מובן "בן פורת" כמושג שנגזר מ"פרו.כאילו היתה ברכה ."ורבו ,ומנין זכה יוסף הצדיק לברכה מיוחדת זו ? מבארים לנו חז"ל שמקור כח זה הוא נעוץ בנחישות הדעת של יוסף – מה שאינו נחישות זו יוצרת ליוסף בידוד.שלי – אפילו לא אסתכל לעומתו אז לא רק שאינו מסתכל על.טוב ומגינה עליו מפני הפיתויים אחרים בראיה זו אלא אין באפשרות האחרים לראות אותו בעין .פחות מטובה גם גישה זו אינה רק סגולה להרחיק היזק זה מחיינו אלא אף מתכון אם אנחנו לא מרוכזים בחיים של, הרי.לחיי אושר ושמחה אחרים וכל מה שחנן להם הקב"ה – אנחנו נהיה פנויים נפשית אולי אפילו נזכה לכח. להעריך את כל הטוב שנתן הקב"ה לנו ההפכני של יוסף – הכח להפוך רעה לטובה על ידי ההכרה שמה .שיש לי – מתאים לי בול Shabbos Schedule Parshas Vayechi לוח שבת פרשת ויחי ערב שבת Erev Shabbos Mincha 1 How is that Yosef merits this special brocho? Chazal explain it is because of Yosef’s strong conviction of ‘what is mine is mine, and what isn’t mine I will not even look at.’ This gives him a strong insulation to his natural boundaries. Hence, not only doesn’t he look at what others have, but others cannot affect him with an evil eye. Figuratively, the emanation from the “ayin hara” that does not penetrate adds to the thickness of his existing barrier, nurturing his environment to grow and prosper. Candle Lighting Yosef’s approach is not only a segula for warding off bad, but a way to achieve goodness and happiness in our own lives. For if we are not looking at what others have, but instead enjoying the goodness that HKBH has bestowed on us, we will see only good.
