Sample Preparation Instructions for Stack Emissions Proficiency Test

General Instructions
Sample Storage
All samples should be stored at ambient temperature 20(±5)oC from the time of arrival at your
laboratory.
Sample Preparation
All samples should be equilibrated at room temperature 20(±5)
20( oC before any analyses are
performed.
Sample Analysis
Samples should be analysed by the normal method or methods used by your laboratory. Replicate
determinations can be made if this is normal laboratory procedure although only one result, per filter,
per method can be submitted to LGC Standards Proficiency Testing for statistical analysis and
reporting on laboratory performance.
Stack emissions samples should be treated like any other samples and all normal quality control
procedures should be adopted.
Sample J – Dust Analysis on Filters (by Gravimetry)
Materials Supplied
•
2 x Quartz filters containing solids for dust analysis (prepared in accordance with ISO 13284-1)

Preparation

On receipt of the samples, dry each numbered filter and weigh by your routine method.

the weight obtained as the initial/tare weight of the filter.

Return the filters to LGC in accordance with the instructions provided below.

surrogate at LGC and returned to your laboratory

On receipt of the returned filters, dry and reweigh using the same analytical procedure as that
used for obtaining the initial/tare weight.

Report results through PORTAL for the following analytes:
•
Initial weight (mg); the weight of the filter at first weighing
•
Returned
urned filter weight (mg); the weight of the filter on weighing after spiking by LGC
•
Calculated difference (mg); the difference between the initial weight and returned
filter weight
Note: The initial and returned filter weights will not be assessed but will be provided for
information only.

Pack the samples in the pre-made

Remove the air waybill from the front pouch of the DHL bag, sign and date section 7, then
return to the front pouch,, ensuring the LGC address is clearly visible.
Place the sealed box containing the samples inside the DHL bag and seal the bag.

email. Please print this documentation on your company letter head.
