MISSION STATEMENT
We CELEBRATE the Gospel when we encounter Jesus Christ in the Sacraments and
through prayer.
We TEACH the Gospel in order to strengthen each family in their knowledge of and
in their relationship with God.
We LIVE the Gospel by seeking justice, granting forgiveness and through works of
service which enhance the spiritual, emotional, social and physical well-being of the
entire community.
This is what the Lord asks of you:
Only this
To act justly
To love tenderly
To walk humbly with your God
Micah 6:8

Celebration of the Sacraments
“The purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify men, to
build up the Body of Christ and, finally, to give worship
to God. Because they are signs, they also instruct. They
not only presuppose faith, but by words and objects they
also nourish, strengthen and express it. That is why they
are called ‘sacraments of faith’.”

Baptism
Requesting the Sacrament of Baptism for a child involves a
serious obligation and a faith commitment on the part of
both parents. In order to prepare both parents for this task,
they will be requested to attend a Baptismal Preparation
Session prior to the Baptism. To register, call the Family
Life Office (231-0671). The Sacrament of Baptism is
celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of each month. A date for
Baptism cannot be scheduled until the necessary
preparation has been completed. Parents are encouraged to
begin preparation prior to the birth of their child.
We are gathered here to
participate in the banquet of
the Eucharist. We are here
because God, in his love, has
invited us, and we have
accepted his invitation.
First Reading (Is 25:6-10). The image of a banquet
describes the blessings God wishes to bestow, not only on
Israel, but on all nations.
Second Reading (Phil 4:12-14.19-20). Paul thanks the
Philippians for their support but says that his real strength
comes from the Lord.
Gospel (Mt 22:1-14). Isaiah’s promise is fulfilled in
Jesus: through him all God’s people are invited to the
banquet feast of the Kingdom.
Isaiah uses the image of a banquet to describe the fullness
of life that God wants to bestow, not just on Israel, but on
all the peoples of the earth. Jesus uses the same image in
his parable. In its original, simpler form, the parable
made the point that those whom the invitation was first
sent (the Jews) rejected it, and their place has been taken
by others (the Gentiles). The details about the sending of
troops and the burning of the city, were added later. They
refer to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., which
was seen as a consequence of the refusal of the Jewish
leaders to listen to Jesus.
Confirmation
Candidates are those already baptized and who have
received the necessary formation in religious education.
Candidates must be at least in the 9th grade to receive this
Sacrament.
Reconciliation
The Sacrament is celebrated each Saturday 11:00 AM 12:00 Noon except Holy Saturday.
Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament is administered on request to those who are
ill at home, in the hospital or nursing home. Please call the
Parish Office (231-0671). It also is administered on the First
Saturday of every month after the 8:00 AM Mass.
Matrimony
Congratulations on your engagement. Call the Parish Office
(231-0671) to make arrangements at least six months in advance.
It is necessary that either the prospective bride, groom or their
family are registered members of Holy Cross Parish.
Holy Orders
If you feel you may have a vocation to serve the people of
God in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ, contact Fr. Thomas
Lafreniere at the Diocesan Vocation Office (561-7759555) or speak to one of the parish priests.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
In the words of Pope Francis, “World Mission Sunday is a
privileged moment when the faithful of various continents
engage in prayer and concrete gestures of solidarity in
support of the young Churches in mission lands.”
On October 18 & 19, our diocesan family celebrates this
“privileged moment;” let us join our brothers and sisters around
the world who will gather at the Lord’s Table to celebrate, with
great joy, our common vocation as missionaries.
Your financial help on World Mission Sunday, offered in the
collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, will
support the 1,150 young mission dioceses and communities
who await the “Good News” of Jesus as their saving hope.
May World Mission Sunday offer each one of us an
opportunity to accomplish both, as we share the joy of the
Gospel and help the poor by our fervent prayer and
through generous hearts!
With gratitude and every prayerful wish, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
This is a reminder for those attending
the Women’s Guild meeting on October
13 that the service program continues its
outreach to those in our community who
are in need. Please bring your frozen pasta casseroles and
no-perishable food items to the Parish Hall before the 9:30
AM Mass.
The
A n n u a l Grandparents Pilgrimage and Mass
will be celebrated on Saturday October 18 at the Cathedral of
St. Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens. The Vigil Mass
at 4:30 PM will be celebrated by Bishop Barbarito. All are
invited. For more information please call 561-775-9557.
Sr. Jane Scaria, SMMI, will be giving a Day of Reflection: “A
Life of Prayer for the Modern Woman,” on Saturday, October
18 at Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center, North Palm Beach,
FL. Come and enjoy from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM with Mass at
11:15 AM followed by lunch. The suggested donation for the
day and lunch is $30.00. Reservations are required, call Alix at
772-234-9388.
Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito
Bishop of Palm Beach
During the month of November, the
Church focuses on the deceased and
reminds us to pray for them. A Book
of Remembrance will be in the
Vestibule of the Church starting
Wednesday, October 1st and will remain there through
Friday, October 31st. You are invited to write in this
book the names of family and friends who have died.
The Book of Remembrance will then be displayed in the
Sanctuary area beginning Saturday, November 1st so that
the deceased will be especially remembered at all
Liturgies during the month of November.
Please
distinguish between the Book of Remembrance and the
Book of Petitions.
Wedding Renewal
The Church continues to uphold the Sacrament of
Matrimony despite a high rate of divorce. The solidarity of
the family plays a major role in stabilizing our society. In
order to boost this solidarity, husbands and wives should
avail themselves of the opportunity to renew their marriage
commitment whether it is on the date of the marriage or a
general renewal which takes place annually in the Parish.
On Saturday, October 25, we will have a renewal of vows
during the 5:30 PM Mass. A wine and cheese reception
will take place on the veranda immediately following Mass.
All married couples are invited.
Thursday, October 30 from 4:00-6:00 PM
all 6th-11th grade students and their
families are invited to John Carroll High
School for a tour of the campus and to meet
the students and staff. For more
information call 772-464-5200
At 6:00pm on Thursday, October 16th, the Holy Cross
Parish Hall will be transformed into Hollywood as once
again Jerry and the Dolls guarantee a fabulous time for all
that attend. You will also enjoy a sumptuous dinner
catered by Culinary Capers. Tickets are only $50 per
person. For tickets or to be a “Sponsor of the Stars” call
Noreen at 562.6854x228 or email [email protected].
Holy Cross Women’s Guild
Please join us Thursday, October 23rd at 5:30 PM in the
Holy Cross Parish Hall for a gourmet dinner catered by 14Bones and a top notch performance of "Milestones and
Memories" presented by Theatre-Go-Round. This event,
sponsored by the Holy Cross Women's Guild, is
sure to sell out quickly. Tickets are available at the
parish office. For reservations, please call Pat
Kroger at 231-0671. The cost is $35 per person.
In preparation for the general election on November 4, 2014
the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops (FCCB) has
coordinated a Candidate Questionnaire Project. Resources can
be found at www.flaccb.org/electionactivities and
www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/. If you
have any questions about the candidate questionnaire or other
political activities please call the FCCB at (850) 205-6817.

“Many are called, but
few are chosen.” We
are each called to be
disciples, stewards, of
God’s gifts. Whether
we are chosen may
well be up to us.
WE ARE STEWARDS . . .
and this is how we live out our stewardship!
To be a good Christian steward is to recognize that God
has blessed us richly. We also need to acknowledge those
blessings by returning a portion of our gifts of time,
talent, and treasure in gratitude.

Treasure - The offertory for the weekend of October 4-5
totaled $18,417.97 of which $552.44 was from on-line
contributions. The Community Outreach totaled $9,453.30
of which $78.30 was from on-line contributions.
 Childcare Resource of Indian River (CR) are
committed to their mission to ensure the availability
and affordability of high quality early childhood and
family support programs for children of financially
challenged working families in Indian River County.
CR strives to ensure that every child who graduates
from their program is academically ready for
kindergarten. Please keep in mind, 40% of children
are not academically ready for kindergarten. Holy
Cross has sponsored 2 children for this coming year
at a total cost of $13,760.00 which covers both
tuitions. Your generosity through the Community
Outreach Fund once again makes a significant
difference in our community!
 Time and Talent - Holy Cross Service Ministry is
planning an “Oktoberfest” celebration for the residents of
St. Francis Manor on Monday evening, October 20 at 6:00
PM. If you are willing to contribute a dish to our
smorgasbord we are in need of your culinary skills! Also
needed are game prizes. Please call Pat Kroger at 231-0671
if you would like to help.
