We are excited to present to you another edition of our annual Budget seminar where our experienced tax professionals will take you through the key tax issues and implications of the 2015 Budget proposals on you and your business. Our plenary session will also include a special highlight on the Goods and Services Tax. Join us and be the first to know! This year, we bring to you a number of interesting and exciting topics for the breakout sessions. Customize your agenda by selecting two (2) of the four (4) breakout sessions below. Breakout 1 Recent tax cases The Malaysian tax landscape has seen an increase in taxpayers challenging the decisions of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) on various tax issues. In this session, we will be focusing on two tax cases where the High Court has overturned the decision of the Special Commissioners of Income Tax and provided decisions in favour of the taxpayers (Clear Water Sanctuary Golf Management Berhad and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd). Together with Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, the legal firm that successfully represented the taxpayers, we will take you through these issues and share with you our insights on how these decisions may impact your business. Breakout 3 Business incentives consideration for Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines We will bring together EY’s regional incentives professionals from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines to provide valuable insights on the available incentives and incentives application processes in their respective countries. We will also provide an overview of inbound issues to consider for Singapore and the Philippines. You will gain a practical appreciation of a multi-country incentive application process and the incentive benefits for those countries through case study discussions. Breakout 2 Malaysia inbound and outbound investments Malaysia has been attracting a significant amount of inbound investments throughout the years. In addition, we have also seen the growth of local investors expanding their investments outside Malaysia. Understanding the tax implications of these investments can help address investment risks, enhance opportunities and provide crucial negotiation insights. This session will focus on the key tax considerations in relation to Malaysia inbound and outbound investments, primarily from a Malaysian perspective. (Limited seats available) Breakout 4 Accounting for income taxes: Back to basics One of the most complex areas within a company’s financial statements is accounting for income taxes. As income taxes are often significant numbers in financial statements, the task of “getting the numbers right” has become more challenging, time-consuming and fraught with greater risk than ever before. Join us at this session as we do a refresher on the key concepts for accounting for income taxes under the Malaysian Financial Reporting Standard 112. We will also share with you a practical example in calculating deferred taxes and common mistakes in accounting for income taxes.
