GLENDALE, ARIZONA PAGE 3 Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 12, 2014 I can do all things in him who strengthens me. — Philippians 4:13 Volume 42 FLU SHOT CLINIC TODAY St. Louis the King is holding an onsite flu shot clinic in McFadden Hall today from 8:00 am through 3:00 pm. • Sun Oct 12 — Life Health Wellness My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Community Yard Sale In today’s Gospel we hear of the parables, saying: The master sent His servants to summon the invited guests to the feast. My thought for today is that every one of us is a servant of the great King. The heavenly Father sends us out to invite everyone to share the spiritual feast offered by His Church at St. Louis the King Church. Who are the people we can invite? We are thinking especially of the many who attend no church, those who have left the church, and of our friends of other faiths who are looking for the spiritual nourishment we have. Invite them to a regular Sunday Mass, or to a special event in our parish. As servants, we should lead them into a spiritual life. As good shepherds we need to show leadership by being active members of our church community. We can become a members of Parish Council, Liturgy Committee, Finance Council, and volunteer in many ways here at St. Louis the King Church. Where do we meet these possible guests? They could be neighbors, schoolmates, fellow workers, even relatives and our fellow parishioners here. As the King commanded in today’s Gospel: “Go out and invite all whom you can find, both bad and good.” Suppose they turn down your invitation. Well, you have done your duty, a duty of faith, a duty of charity. I would like to ask all of you to support me as your shepherd in this parish through this community effort, and go out and invite all whom you can find, so that we are able to work and lead to build the house of the Lord . This year we are invited to reach out and help build the Church in Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic Church, as well as local churches throughout the Missions, in the most remote areas across our world. Through the work of these churches, and their witness to Christ, the poor receive practical help and experience God’s love and mercy, His hope and peace. Please keep the Missions in your daily prayers. Please come prepared next weekend to give generously in the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Stewardship There once was an old farmer who was constantly bragging about how generous he would be if he were only rich. One night God sent an angel to test him. The angel asked, “If you had $1 million dollars, would you share some with God?” “Of course I would,” answered the man without hesitation. “If you lived in a mansion, would you let God have a room?” the angel asked. Again the man quickly answered, “Absolutely.” Finally, the angel asked, “Would you let God use your old horse out back?” The man thought for a long time and finally answered, “No.” “Why not?” asked the angel. The man answered, “Because that horse is the only one I have and I need him.” Moral of the Story: It’s harder to be generous with things that we actually have than it is with riches we hope to have someday.
