Welcome back to another Scouting
term. Welcome to our new parents
and their children. Parent help is
always welcome on Section Meeting
nights; please speak with your
Section Leaders to ascertain their
requirements.
What a busy few weeks in the life of
the Group. With 14 Cub Scouts, one
Leader and one Adult Helper
attending the 3rd Queensland Cuboree
in Maryborough, there was certainly a
number of tired faces greeting
parents and loved ones as they exited
the bus! Keego and Mike ensured all
Cub Scouts had an exciting time
during this event.

Our Cubs have had a great adventure
at Cuboree in Maryborough. Well
done to Michelle (Keego) and Mike.
The next event for Venturers is the
16th Australian Venture at
Woodhouse, Adelaide in January
2015. One of our Scouts is attending
the World Jamboree in Japan; have a
great adventure Xavior. Scouts will
attend the Australian Jamboree in
January 2016 at Cataract Park,
Sydney.
All parents and/or guardians are
reminded to use their key-rings at
IGA.

Fundraising is now in full swing for
members of our Scout Troop and
current older Cub Scouts that will be
attending at the Australian Jamboree
in 2016. If you can handle a 5:00am
start, and a relaxed social
atmosphere, then a Dodger’s BBQ is
an excellent method of putting funds
towards this event. Availability emails
are sent within the 2nd to 3rd week of
each month for the following BBQ.
Congratulations:
Stuart McConaghy (Group Chairman)
5 year Service award
Kathryn Whitaker (Joey Scouts)
5 year Service award
Julie Baker (Assistant Treasurer)
10 year Service award
The Group’s progress on our lease
extension and proposed storage shed
is coming along at a great pace.
Documentation is now with Branch
Headquarters and the Gold Coast City
Council; once this has been returned
(hopefully fully approved) the Group
will be in a position to publish plans
for all to view.

Operation Nighthawk
Saturday morning we departed the den with 9 Scouts and 2 Leaders to attend the annual Operation Nighthawk which
was held at Crows Nest.
Our trip up comprised of having lunch at Plainlands of which we have never witnessed the Scouts eat such a different
array of food with Rhys purchasing from 3 of the 4 shops available. The Scouts then showed great respect and manners
when they attended the local Woolworths to purchase the food for the evening’s meal, Sunday breakfast and
associated snacks.
After arriving at the showgrounds and setting up the tents, it was time for the Opening Parade. Most of the Scouts were
in such awe to see so many youth members on one parade. After a few hours and spaghetti bolognaise it was time to
set off on the hike.
Dingo patrol consisting of Jake, Jye, Lachlan, Tayla and Sarah set off at 6.50pm with Quokka patrol with Xaviour, James,
Rhys and Imanuele off at 6.55pm. The teams are sent off in 2 different directions with them crossing paths around the
halfway mark. Along the way Dingo patrol got quite excited when they spotted a koala but both patrols were not too
excited to see all the cows.
Bases around the course consisted of Initiative, Maps, Construction, First Aid, Knots, Quiz and Environment as well as
the Milo base. Both patrols did exceptionally well with Dingo finishing 55 and Quokka 148.
The two Patrols arrived back at the camp at 2.10am and enjoyed a hot cup of Milo and warmed up by the fire with all
Scouts back in bed by 3:00am.
After final parade and packing the trailer in record time we had a slight detour to Picnic Point where we had morning
tea, and then it was back to Plainlands for lunch before arriving back at the den shortly before 4:00pm.
A big bravo to both patrols.
Baggy and Akala.
