Difficulty Hearing in Church?
Did you know that you can bring any transistor
radio with a head set to church and tune to channel
107.5 to receive assistance with hearing. Those
who have been using this assistance are most
pleased.
The radio does not have to be
special. The least expensive ones work just fine.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord,
On Monday, October 13th, our school children presented a beautiful tribute to our Lady of the Rosary by praying a Living Rosary.
It was great to have so many parents, grandparents and parishioners, who were able to join the celebration. The date, October 13th,
marked the ninety-sixth anniversary of the final apparition of Our Blessed Mother to the three children in Fatima, Portugal. The
miracle of the sun was the last of the apparitions which had occurred on the 13th of each month beginning on May 13, 1917. The
miracle witnessed the appearance of the dancing of the sun and it’s coming closer to the earth, drying the clothing and mud from
the soaking rain that was present for the day prior to the occurrence. It is estimated that thirty to one-hundred thousand people
experienced the occurrence from an area about forty miles around Fatima. This was in response to a request for a sign that would
substantiate the visions and their request for prayer and penance for the intention of peace in the world. Hear Our Lady’s request to
you: “PRAY AND SACRIFICE FOR WORLD PEACE!” Her rosary is a powerful weapon against evil of any kind.
Our CYO will observe a special celebration of Holy Mass this weekend, Sunday at 9 AM. Our parish is so grateful to the many
adults, under the leadership of Mr. John Dougherty, who do so much to make this program such a success for our youth. May God
bless each of these coaches and coordinators for their tithe of time and talent for the good of our young people.
Please remember the parish Healing Mass next Saturday, October 25. Anyone in need of healing from physical, mental or
emotional difficulties is encouraged to receive this sacrament given by Christ to His Church for their benefit. We are grateful to
Jane Press, 610 363 9588, and all who assisted her in planning this annual event.
Extra tickets for our “Thanksgiving Car Raffle” are available in the vestibule this weekend. As you know, a ticket has been mailed
to each of our households. Would you be able to sell an extra ticket or two to family, friends or co-workers? Please stop by the
ticket table this weekend. Any help you can give this important effort for our parish’s financial stability is greatly appreciated. If
you are unable to help by buying or selling a ticket please ask the Lord to, once again, bless this effort with success. SSPJ is so
very grateful to all who have helped make this drive a success in the past. +jcd
P.S. You have perhaps heard some of the talk about the present SYNOD in Rome. You may find an article by Fr. Robert Barron,
Chicago, October 14, (Zenit.org) helpful. In short Fr. Barron notes that it is not over until it is over, i.e. the final document. The
Holy Father has encouraged complete freedom on the part of the participants to speak their minds freely and without fear. It is the
belief, based on past experiences through the centuries, that this is the best approach to allow the Holy Spirit the opportunity to as
Fr. Barron notes “guide the process”. Historian Martin Marty is quoted concerning the freedom to speak given the synod members
that “this does not imply for a moment that Pope Francis will agree with every point of view expressed, and indeed he can’t
possibly, since many are mutually exclusive”. Father Barron notes that “we should all be patient and refrain from bloviating” (i.e.
to speak at length in a pompous self aggrandizing way).

SSPJ Students Present the Living Rosary
On the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, the school
community of SS. Philip and James participated in
the annual Living Rosary in the church. While the
congregation prayed the rosary with student leaders,
6th graders portrayed tableaus of the mysteries of the
rosary. Students holding roses represented the beads
of the rosary. Afterwards, the roses were presented to
the statue of the Blessed Mother in church. This year,
the students prayed the Glorious Mysteries. Below
are photos from the beautiful presentation. (Students
whose backs are turned are listed in alphabetical
order).
