Terri Beal is the Altamont
Chamber of Commerceʼs
Citizen of the Year.
The chamber honored
Beal at its 2014 Community
Banquet held at Carriage
House Event Center the evening of Saturday, Oct. 18.
“I would have to say that
I think this yearʼs recipient
will be startled to learn she
is being honored, because
I know that receiving this
honor has probably never
crossed her mind,” said mas-
ter of ceremonies Scott Beal,
Terri Bealʼs husband. “As a
matter of fact I suspect that,
had she known prior to this
moment, she would have
objected, saying, ʻSomeone
else deserves this more than
I do.' But, that isnʼt the case
tonight, and here we are,” he
added.
He said he was “probably
leaving some things out,”

be here tonight to see her
receive the recognition she
deserves for her years of devotion to our community.”
The chamber bestowed
a new award, the Don
Schmidt Memorial Volunteer
Award, on Barb Hampson.
The late Don Schmidt and
his wife, Linda, were coCitizens of the Year in 2011.

help with anything, you
immediately think of Barb,”
they wrote.
Over the years, Hampson has volunteered at the
Charles Wright Home, the
Lutheran Care Center and
Altamontʼs Chandra
Smith is among the student
ambassadors at Lake Land
College for the 2014-2015
academic year. As an ambassador, Smith receives a $500yearly scholarship.
Student ambassadors are
a select group of students
chosen to serve as official
representatives of Lake Land
College. The ambassadors
assist the college by informing prospective students of
the opportunities available
to them at Lake Land.
In addition, they assist
with several campus organizations and personnel with
special school functions.
To become an ambassador, students must meet be
at least a half- time student
for both fall and spring
semesters, maintain a 2.5
grade-point average, complete an application and
complete an interview.
Once students are selected, they attend training
sessions and weekly meetings to learn more about the
college. During the school
year, the ambassadors give
tours of the campus, attend
college/career fairs, visit
high schools, and assist with
special school functions.
