He goes on to say that without love “we are nothing” and “we gain nothing.” A more positive way to state that is that with love we get in touch with our deepest truest self and we get in touch with and live out the deepest meaning of our existence. The Greeks had four distinct meanings for the word love. “Storge,” which is the love between parents and children. “Philia,” which is the love between friends. “Eros,” which is the intimate, sexual love between a man and woman. Within Christianity, the ideal expression of this love is within the sacrament of Matrimony so that this expression of love is supported by a lifelong commitment, the total gift of self, and a partnership of life and love. “Agape,” which is a brotherly and sisterly love that we are called to have for all people. Agape love is characterized by charity, respect, and good will. Christianity deepens the meaning of agape love and views it as a form of unconditional love which leads us a life of service and self-sacrifice. Jesus Christ reveals that agape love is the highest form of love when he states: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” We see the agape love of Jesus Christ for the entire human family through His suffering, death, and resurrection. We are invited to participate and share in this unconditional and sacrificial kind of love. Agape love is meant to shine forth in all of our relationships with other people. Married couples show agape love when they make a firm commitment to spend time together in the midst of their very busy lives. Parents show agape love for their children through numerous sacrifices to insure their spiritual, emotional, relational, educational, and physical well being. Friends show agape love by being there for each other in both the joyful and the difficult moments of life. We all show agape love whenever we go out of ourselves for the sake of the newcomer, the stranger, the poor, the marginalized, the sick and the suffering. Agape love is always important, but especially in circumstances of vulnerability, difficulty, challenge, and suffering. Whenever we express agape love, we are making flesh the love that Christ has for His people in the present moment of their lives. We are showing them that God is alive and present and active in their lives. With agape love, we make real and fill the world with the love of God. Agape love will be born and continually grow in our hearts if we generously live out the words of Jesus in today’s Gospel, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all of your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” God is the source, the sustainer and the grower of all agape love, because it is an concrete expression of the awesome love He has for His people. Have a blessed week! Fr. - Voces-Coro Jueves 6:30 p.m. - Instrumentos-Orquesta Ven y Comparte tus talentos musicales, te esperamos ********************************************************************** PASTORAL DE QUINCEAÑERAS Talleres Formativos Requisito para Celebraciones de Quince Años Todos los Miércoles de Octubre 5:00-6:00 p.m. No Faltes ********************************************************************************** ********************************************************************************************** Apostolado de La Divina Misericordia Todos los Miércoles 6:00-8:00 pm Capilla del Rosario Te esperamos con toda tu Familia LOS SANTOS Y OTRAS CELEBRACIONES Domingo: Trigésimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario; Domingo del Sacerdocio; Día de la Juventud en Estados Unidos ******************************************************************** Pastoral Deportiva - Caballeros de Colón Club Deportivo “Sagrados Corazones” “Corazones Santos son Corazones Sanos” Ven y ayúdanos a promover Fútbol-7 y Voleibol, Reunión de Dírectivas Miércoles a las 7:00 p.m. Te esperamos Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos (R.I.C.A.)
