From the Office of the Superintendent
I’m keeping this brief this month, in order to defer some space
for a picture of our BVC Champion Volleyball team. This fall has
been absolutely incredible for athletics, but also for academics. In
two weeks we will induct 12 high school students into the National
Honor Society at a ceremony in Van Buren. The next week we will
induct 22 middle school students into the National Junior Honor
Society. The STEM club is working on a robot for competition and
will be presenting to elementary students on topics they have been
researching. Many high school students took the ACT in September
and many more will be taking it in the coming months, preparing for
college application. Mrs. Day has a great core of math tutors helping peers with math homework during the school day. High school
students are enrolled in dual enrollment classes, which allow them
both high school and college credit in these challenging areas,
such as English and Psychology. In addition, we have many students taking advantage of technical programs at Millstream.
As the first quarter comes to a close at the end of October,
opportunities will be coming up for families to be involved in their
students’ educational experience. Please sign up for a parentteacher conference and find out how your child is doing. Also, if
you have concerns at any time, it is not necessary to wait for conferences. Don’t hesitate to call and set up an appointment or email
any teacher at any time. We want to be a team with you and your
child to make our students as successful as they can be. Also, if
you have concerns or questions about anything related to McComb
Schools, we are encouraging people to make contact right away
with the person in charge of the area in which you have a concern.
If it is a classroom concern, that would be the teacher first. If it is
cafeteria, transportation, finance, athletics, please call the office
(419-293-3979), and we can direct you to the right administrator.
One phone call can alleviate a lot of heartache, anxiety or misinformation. We are here to serve you.
Our next Reader will not go out until after Thanksgiving, so let
me say “Thank you” to all of the men and women reading this who
have served or are serving our country. We look forward to honor-

ing our military folks on November 11. Also, let me encourage our
seniors to join us on the 21st for lunch, as we celebrate you. And
finally, let me wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. May you enjoy
some time with family and friends, and feel the joy of all of your
blessings.

Angel Tree
Again this year, the National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a Christmas “Angel Tree” to help the Salvation Army make
a joyous Christmas for many children in our area. The middle
school is hoping to generously contribute to make others
have a happy holiday. Students in middle and high school are
encouraged to sign out an angel from the tree in the cafeteria
during lunch starting in mid November. Newly purchased
unwrapped gifts may be dropped off in Mrs. Borgelt’s classroom through December 3. It is helpful if gifts are in a sturdy
bag with the angel securely attached to the outside. Thank
you for thinking of others in need this upcoming Christmas
season.

helping, please contact any of the Fine Arts teachers here at
McComb and we can get you in touch with McFAB and fine you
a place to be involved!

McComb 7th Grade Volleyball
The 7th grade volleyball team had a great season of building
skills and preparing themselves for a competitive year in 8th grade. They learned the basic fundamentals of passing, serving, setting,
and hitting. Coach Schaublin is extremely proud of each player
and their dedication to the sport. We are all very thankful for the
support of the parents and community throughout our season.
McComb Jr High Football - 2014
The young Panthers of the McComb Jr High football team finished their season Runner-Up (2nd Place) in the BVC Jr High
Football League with a very respectable 5 wins and 3 loss record.
Twenty hard working athletes practiced their blocking, tackling,
running, passing, and teamwork skills during the week and then
put those lessons to the test each Thursday. The improvement
made by each player during this season was a direct result of the
amount of effort put forth. The young Panthers should take pride
in their accomplishments but make plans to continue to work on
and improve their football skills.
Members of the 2014 McComb Jr High football team are Aaron
Davis, David Brandenburg, Jose Diaz, Jacob Dillon, Kahle
Farquharson, Koby Gustwiller, Logan Kepling, Brice Markle,

Design-an-Ad Winner
This fall, McComb 4th, 5th and 6th Graders had the
opportunity to participate in The Courier Design an Ad
contest. The students were given the name and information of a business that purchased advertising space
in The Courier and designed an ad for them. Each business then picked the ad that they wanted to use. There
were a lot of great designs from our school, I can’t even
imagine how many more they had to sort through from
other schools as well. I’m proud to say that 5th grader
Aliya Fasig’s ad design for Cascades Hearing Center
made the cut and was published with the other winners
in the October 24th edition of The Courier.
