The Eastern Kentucky University Interpreter Outreach Program proudly presents “ASL: Semantics Practice” Presented by Kevin Taylor November 15, 2014 8:30 AM- 3:30 PM Registration begins at 8:00 PM Eastern Kentucky University Rowlett 301 521 Lancaster Ave, Richmond KY 40475 Professional Development Session: Unsure of how to sign correct terminology for an assignment? Want to expand your vocabulary? Want a wider selection of sign choices? Participants work on achieving dynamic equivalence. Participants will practice in groups translating from English to ASL, making the correct sign choice. The workshop will include lecture, classroom actives, and practice. The Presenter: Kevin Taylor, M.A. Kevin Taylor has worked as an ASL/INT instructor for Northern Virginia Community College since 2011 teaching a wide variety of ASL and Interpreting courses. Kevin received his B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Human Anatomy from Colorado State University and his M.A. in Deaf Studies: Specializing in Teaching Sign Language from Gallaudet University. Prior to working at NVCC, he worked for a year at Gallaudet University teaching ASL to deaf students who enrolled with no knowledge of ASL. He was also a high school teacher at Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) for four years. He taught a variety of science classes with a focus mostly on Chemistry and Physics. He was also involved as a student advisor for the senior class for three years. He participated in the Cultural Exchange Program (CEP) with students traveling all over Europe, a total of 11 countries during his time at MSSD. He remains active in various local and national organizations by maintaining memberships with Conference of Interpreter Trainers and serving on a local committee with Veditz American Sign Language Teachers’ Association located in Virginia.
