PROGRAMS This Thursday, our luncheon program will be Mark Williams, Music Director First Baptist church as arranged by Bill Deason, November Programs Chairman. Invite friends, associates and relatives to our meetings. This week Saturday, members are going to work at the fairgrounds to clean up and fix equipment needed to be repaired from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, on November 8th. Next week, Tuesday our Fair begins and we pray for good weather with Amusements of America Midway and other events. Next week Thursday luncheon, our fair midway owner and associates will speak to us. 60TH ANNIVERSARY FAIR NEWS President Tanner asked members to volunteer to help spread wood shavings in the animal stalls at 8:30 a.m. next Saturday. Also, (Ginger) Virginia Peagler has prepared updates to the 3-ring 2013-2014 binder of club member addresses and phone numbers, on the back table. If you don’t have the binder, check with her to get one with the updated information. Call 478-442-6224. Pre-sale tickets will be sold by members this Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The $5.00 discounted tickets cost $15.00 which gives entry and all rides good from Wednesday - Saturday only. Sneak-A-Peak tickets on Tuesday at the gate are $10.00 this year which includes entry and all rides. General admission only is $5.00 any time. At the gate Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday tickets are $20.00 at the regular price. Saturday November 15 only, free admission is available from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. for Kids Day. Ride tickets must be bought to ride inside the midway. Sunday, November 16th after 1:00 p.m. there is no admission fee but 2 for 1 ride tickets are sold until 5:00 p.m. The petting zoo, animal stalls, animal competition, and the Lady Houdini Escape Show nightly, are available. Linda Paulk (283-3530) needs commitments of desserts from each spouse of members for meals during the fair after 6:00 p.m. for members working each day. December 18th is our Christmas Banquet at 7:00 p.m. The next day is bell ringing for Salvation Army at several stores. SUMMER REECE ROBERSON OCTOBER YOUTH OF THE MONTH Robbie Winn introduced our club’s October Youth of the Month winner as Summer Reece Roberson, daughter of Robbie Roberson and wife, Deena. Summer is currently ranked 7th out of 314 Ware County High School Seniors. Summer’s activities/honors at WCHS include 10 honors and has been involved in five community activities. After graduation from WCHS, Simmer plans to attend the University of Georgia and major in veterinary science. Her career goal is to return to southeast Georgia to work as a Vet. WATSON GEORGIA PORTS AUTHORITY roll-off up 10%. total tonnage is 2nd under Baltimore in U.S. Savannah is fastest growing port in the U.S. and has best gate times in U.S. Bob Hereford, Executive director Waycross-Ware County Development Authority filled in for Steve Pope and introduced Stacy B. Watson, General Manager, Economic and Industrial Development, Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah Georgia. Watson stated that the Garden Port has nine ship berths, and 33 cranes on the dock. They handle three million containers per year and have the capacity to double production in the future for the Southeastern region. The Georgia Ports Authority is a private authority which makes it easier to arrange growth and changes needed when dealing with the federal government and large financial institutions compared to publicly governmentally owned ports in the U.S. They operate five terminals in Georgia. The Garden terminal in Savannah has 23 cranes and is going to 33 cranes. City terminal, Ocean terminal has 200 acres with 1 crane and is important to the state with roll-ons and offs. Brunswick Colonel’s Island is 2nd in U. S. handling vehicles. East River East dock is upgrading for exporting wood pellets. Mayor’s Port Authority handles primarily paper products. Two ports in Columbus and Bainbridge are small having not over 9’ depth entrance. All ports handle 29.4 tonnage and is up 8.0% this year (July-June). TEU (Transportation tonnage measurement unit) has increased 6.4% above pre-recession levels. Inter-modal containers are up 5.8% Roll-on and CRAIG CAMUSO CSX VICE PRESIDENT CSX RAILROAD Steve Pope introduced Gus Karle retired CSX Rice Yard Superintendent who introduced Craig Camuso, Vice President of State Relations office, in Jacksonville, Florida. He is Vice President Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and all of CSX facilities in the southeastern United States. Camuso said CSX is investing $2.4 billion in capital equipment in 2014 and several new diesel locomotives to move trains from Chicago and throughout the United Sates and Canada. CSX, also, is working to implement a federal mandate to control trains going through red lights to prevent train accidents. CSX has between 150-200 employees per shift in Waycross and moves 2,300 rail cars per day at the Rice Yard. Thirty trains go in and out of Waycross each day. CSX operates on 1,600 miles of track in 23 states and 2 Canadian provinces on 21,000 miles of track and employs a 31,000 workforce. Coal represents 24 percent of the rail works traffic. Chemicals 16% and autos is 10 percent, intermodal is 17 percent and agricultural products is 9 percent. Great program, Steve. CSX, America and Waycross have bright futures according to Camuso.
