Peter… FALL FESTIVAL MESSAGE FROM FR. PETER 2014 Through this message I would like to extend my thanks to each and every one of you for your combined efforts in making this year’s event a great success. The festival was well planned, organized and executed. I was especially pleased to see the additional participation from the school. It continues to display our growing cooperative relationship, trust and harmony between church and school. This was further demonstrated by the recent success of our Festa Italiana raising more than $15,000 for our Tuition Assistance Program for the young people in our parish to help make a Catholic Education possible at ST John of The Cross School. The more than forty volunteers can be proud of their efforts and the fruits of their labors as we significantly exceed our revenues and profits from last year. I believe every area of activity was ahead of last year and that was further improved by a better control of expenses. I hope we continue with the same leadership team next year giving us an opportunity to have an even better event in 2015 as we celebrate our Diamond Jubilee 75th anniversary and the opening of the first phase of our Youth Center. One of the newest additions this year was the Princess and Queen contest featuring our Faith Formation School youth and other parish groups. This has the possibility of becoming a real feature event as more and more of our young people participate. I understand our Chair and our Music Director have another big surprise in store for next year! The success of our Fall Festival, which is a tradition not only in our parish but all of Lemon Grove, is vitally important for all aspects of our parish. Last year , for instance, we loaned funds from our festival account to help the school with their payroll, (repaid), helped the parish when collections were down during the “long hot summer” and this year provided for the new ticket windows at the hall and the first , in recent memory, thoroughly professional cleaning of the hall from “stem to stern”. It will also be there to help with loans in the event there is a temporary shortage of funds as we raise additional money to complete the first phase of our multipurpose Youth Center. On behalf our priests, staff and our over 4000 parishioners and our school we extend our grateful thanks. All proceeds to benefit SJC School Nov 16, 2014 Page Three BUILDING TOGETHER WORK ON YOUTH CENTER FOUNDATION HAS BEGUN After blessing the site, a cheering crowd of parishioners watched last Sunday as Father dug up the first shovel of soil where part of a new youth center will take shape This is the construction and payment schedule: Demolition (completed) $12,000 November 10, Start of Foundation $15,000 City Inspection of Foundation & Underground Plumbing (End Nov.) $45,000 December, after Concrete is poured $70,000 January, after Framing Inspection $35,000 February/March, Final Inspection $12,900 Our Building Account savings will cover the payments up to ½ of the $70,000 due near the end of 2014. We have obtained a small construction credit from the diocese for the amount we cannot raise by the time our savings are exhausted. Father hopes we can avoid adding to the remaining debt we took on when we built the new school. What better way to prepare for our 75th Diamond Jubilee than the ribbon cutting to a debt free meeting center for our children and youth. A onetime generous donation from our faithful Catholics will make this possible. We will also celebrate “the call to Continuing Conversion” with our baptized candidates, Art Alvarado, Mike Farber, David Garcia, Rose Idano, Christian Luna, Gabriela Mendoza, Michael Murphy, and Jill Suarez. Please pray for them as they continue their journey to the Easter Sacraments. Dear Parishioners The Thanksgiving holiday is almost upon us and it's not only a time to give thanks for all that we have but to show our appreciation by giving to those less fortunate than us. At our parish, the youth group does this by hosting a huge Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for our seniors in the parish hall the weekend before Thanksgiving. Our food pantry gives out 30+ baskets of food, including a turkey for needy families in our Parish. But we need your help. In the next few weeks, please bring non-perishable food items to the church or rectory. We especially need stuffing, gravy, canned vegetables, fruit and cranberries. We also appreciate cash donations to purchase the turkeys and other items. Put your donation in an envelope marked Thanksgiving and drop off at the rectory or put in the second collection. PADRE PEDRO: MENSAJE DEL FESTIVAL DE OTOÑO 2014 A través de este mensaje me gustaría expresar mi agradecimiento a todos y cada uno de ustedes por su esfuerzo en la preparación del evento que fue un gran éxito este año. El festival fue muy bien planeado, organizado y llevado a acabo. Me agradó especialmente la participación adicional de la escuela. Seguimos demostrando de nuestra buena relación de cooperación, confianza y armonía entre la iglesia y la escuela. Esta armonía se demostró además por el reciente éxito de la Festa Italiana recaudando más de $15.000 para nuestro programa de ayuda de registraciones de los jóvenes de nuestra parroquia y hacer posible una continua educación católica en la escuela de San Juan de la Cruz Los más de cuarenta voluntarios pueden sentirse orgullosos de sus esfuerzos y los frutos de sus labores ya que significativamente excedimos nuestros ingresos y ganancias del año pasado. Creo que todas las áreas de actividad estuvieron funcionando mejor que del año pasado y mejoró mucho el control de los gastos. Espero continuar con el mismo equipo de liderazgo para el año que viene, pues nos da la oportunidad de tener un evento aún mejor en el año 2015 ya que celebraremos nuestro 75o Aniversario y la apertura de la primera fase de nuestro Edificio de Jóvenes. Una de las más recientes incorporaciones este año fue el concurso Princesa y Reina con nuestros jóvenes de la escuela, Formación de Fe y otros grupos de la parroquia. Este evento tiene la posibilidad de convertirse en un evento más donde nuestros jóvenes tengan la oportunidad de participar. Tengo entendido que nuestro Presidente y nuestro Director de música tienen otra gran sorpresa en marcha para el próximo año! El éxito de nuestro Festival de otoño, que es una tradición no sólo en nuestra parroquia sino de Lemon Grove, es de vital importancia para todos los aspectos de nuestra parroquia. El año pasado, por ejemplo, nos apoyó con fondos de la cuenta de nuestro festival para ayudar a la escuela con sus nóminas, (pagado), ayudó a la parroquia cuando las ofrendas bajaron durante el "tiempo caluroso del verano", con la construcción de las nuevas taquillas en el salón y la primera limpieza completamente profesional recientemente hecha de "pared a pared". También estos fondos serán de gran apoyo en caso de que nuestros fondos de nuestro Edificio para Jóvenes se acaben mientras recuperamos dinero adicional para completar la primera fase de este proyecto. En nombre nuestros sacerdotes, el personal y los 4000 feligreses y nuestra escuela extendemos nuestro agradecimiento.
