A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR,

On this last Sunday of the Church year we celebrate the
Feast of Christ the King, honoring Jesus as our King, our
Leader and Lord. When we think of kings we think of someone
who holds power over others and demands great respect. Today, as
always, we hear that Jesus is different. He is the True Shepherd: “I
myself will pasture my sheep. I myself will give them rest, says the Lord
God. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I
will bind up, the sick I will heal…”(from the First Reading). He is the Life
Giver: “Just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to
life” (from our Second Reading which tells of Christ risen from the dead
who conquers death – “the last enemy to be destroyed is
death.”) Christ is our Savior who points out to us today in the Gospel
that our final judgment will be based on the simple human caring and
love we show to each person, especially those most in need. What a
king we have in Jesus! To him be all honor, glory and praise now and
forever!
• This Sunday we will collect canned goods and non perishable food
to help the needy of our community at Thanksgiving and in December. The need is great. Many people are coming on Wednesday morning seeking help from the St. Vincent de Paul Society of our parish. Please share with families who are less fortunate during the holidays by bringing canned goods and non-perishable food when you
come to Mass this Sunday.

En este último Domingo del Año Litúrgico (de la Iglesia),
celebramos la Fiesta de Cristo Rey. En ella honramos a
Jesús como nuestro Rey, nuestro Guía y Señor. Cuando pensamos
en los reyes, pensamos en alguien que tiene poder sobre otros y demanda gran respeto. Hoy, mientras escuchamos el Evangelio, descubrimos que Jesús es diferente. Él es el verdadero Pastor: “Yo mismo
iré a buscar a mis ovejas y velaré por ellas, dice el Señor Dios. Buscaré a la perdida y haré volver a la descarriada; curaré a la herida,
robusteceré a la débil… “(de la Primera Lectura). Él es el dador de la
vida: “Así como en Adán todos mueren, así en Cristo todos volverán a
la vida” (de la Segunda Lectura, que dice que Cristo de entre los
muertos ha vencido a la muerte _ “el ultimo enemigo en ser aniquilado
será la muerte”). Cristo es nuestro Salvador, quien nos previene en el
Evangelio de hoy sobre el Juicio Final, que será basado en la simplicidad del cuidado humano y el amor que tuvimos por cada persona,
pero sobre todo, del hermano más necesitado. ¡Qué rey tan maravilloso tenemos en Jesús! ¡A Él la Gloria, el honor y la alabanza por
siempre!

Este Domingo recogeremos latas de comida y comida que no se
echa a perder, para ayudar a los necesitados de nuestra comunidad en el Día de Acción de Gracias y en Navidad. La necesidad
es muy grande. Mucha gente está viniendo los miércoles por la
mañana, en busca de ayuda de la Asociación de San Vicente de
Paúl, de nuestra Parroquia. Por favor, compartan con familias
que son menos afortunadas que ustedes, durante estos días de
fiesta, trayendo alimentos para ellas durante las Misas del Domingo.

• Thursday of this week is Thanksgiving Day, our national holiday. We will have one Mass on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday at
8:30 AM (no 6:30 AM Mass on Thursday and Friday). We invite you
to join us as we give thanks to God for his many blessings at 8:30 AM
Mass on Thanksgiving Day. A Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to
all!
• The Parish Office and Campus will be closed for the holiday after
the 8:30 AM Mass on Thursday and Friday. There will be no Confessions or Adoration on Friday evening at Our Lady of the Desert Mission in Littlerock.
• As Pastor I give thanks to God for all parishioners, for all who
volunteer in our many parish ministries and programs, and our wonderful clergy and parish and school staff. I pray God’s blessings on all

Nuestra Parroquia tendrá una Misa especial para los miembros de
las familias que han fallecido en años recientes. La Misa tendrá
lugar el martes 25 de noviembre a las 7:30 PM en la Iglesia y
después se ofrecerá una recepción en el Salón Parroquial. Todos
están invitados. Por favor llame a la oficina parroquial y déjenos
saber si asistirá, para que así podamos hacer los preparativos
necesarios para la Misa y la recepción.

El jueves de esta semana es el Día de Acción de Gracias, nuestro
día de fiesta nacional. Tendremos una sola Misa ese día a las 8:30

Our Parish Bereavement Committee is sponsoring a
Mass for the Bereaved on Tuesday, November 25th at
7:30 PM in Church, followed by a reception in the new
Parish Hall.

Mass and reception so we can make final preparations.

I am grateful to the Catholic Community of Los Angeles for your commitment to the institution of marriage as fashioned by God and to work
with such energy to enshrine this divine plan into our State’s Constitution.
The passage of Proposition 8 was the result of an unprecedented coalition of many Faith Communities and other citizens who understood the
importance of maintaining the bedrock institution of marriage as has
been lived out since recorded history.
The book of Genesis records clearly God’s plan for the human family:
“The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from
the man. When he brought her to the man, the man said ‘This one, at
last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called
‘woman,’ for out of ‘her man’ this one has been taken. That is why a
man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of
them become on body.” (Genesis 2:22-24) Then, “God blessed them,
saying: ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis
1:28)

Our collective efforts in the support of Proposition 8 have centered
solely around preserving God’s plan that marriage between one man and
one woman is to be that unchanging reality through which their mutual
love becomes fruitful through bringing forth children to continue the
human family. The raising, formation, and education of these children is
destined by God to take place within a traditional family of one father
and on mother.
Proposition 8 is not against any group in our society. Its sole focus is on
preserving God’s plan for people living upon this earth throughout time.
The Catholic Church understands that there are people who choose to
live together in relationships other than traditional marriage. All of their
spiritual, pastoral, and civil rights should be respected, together with
their membership in the Church.
This special effort across California has also been assisted by many who
live outside our state because they recognized the importance of maintaining God’s plan for marriage as a bedrock institution for society. May
the new definition of marriage in our state Constitution be enlivened by
our continuing support for married couples and their families.

Did You know? The prevalence of abuse in society
¿Sabía Usted? Predominio del Abuso Sexual en la Sociedad
In surveys of adults, one out of five women and one out of 10
men reported that they were sexually molested before they were
18 years old. This means that an estimated 40 million adult
survivors of child sexual abuse are living in the United States
today. An estimated 9.6 percent of all school children will be
molested by an educator or an employee of a school between
kindergarten and 12th grade. Between 13 and 34 percent of all
females will be victims of sexual assault before the age of 18
and 7 to 16 percent of all males will also be victimized before
they are 18.
En cuestionarios hechos a adultos, una de cada cinco mujeres y
uno de cada diez hombres afirman que fueron sexualmente abusados antes de que cumplieron los 18 años. Esto significa que
