Cranbourne East Primary School No 5518 SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Phone: 5990 0400 Fax: 5990 0499 Email: [email protected] Website: www.cranbourneeastps.vic.edu.au Address: 2 Bowyer Avenue, Cranbourne East 3977 13th November 2014 Issue 34 FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Hi Everyone On Tuesday Mrs Jones and our school captains, Ishell and Steven, accompanied me to the Clydesdale Square in Cranbourne to participate in the Remembrance Day Service. On behalf of the school community both captains, along with members of the public and many other schools, laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in Remembrance. Back at school at 11:00am the entire school paused for one minute’s silence to commemorate Remembrance Day and the Pledge of Remembrance read over public address system. Red poppies are often worn on Remembrance Day and at school many students in all home groups wore red poppies for Remembrance Day 2014. Yesterday Mr Beach (Performing Arts specialist) and Mrs Kosach (Assistant Principal) along with Amy Hanks took fifty eight members of the school choir to perform at the Kmart store in Bayside Shopping Centre in Frankston. The choir performed to a very high standard and received much applause from the public in attendance. Mr Beach informed me this was the best performance by far and the students are to be commended for their outstanding performance. Video clips and photos will appear on the website and the weekly assembly. Today the second of five new relocatable classrooms arrived on site. To assist with the relocation of the largest, cranes arrived on site much to the amazement of our students who thoroughly enjoyed viewing the crane maneuvering the sections into place. The school is well into the 2015 school year planning cycle. I ask parents whose children will be leaving the school to contact the office and if parents have yet to enroll their children into the school, or know of a neighbour or friend who have children yet to enroll to also contact the office. Our school enrolments are increasing at a rapid rate which impacts on the recruitment of staff and procurement of classrooms. Thank you for your support with this matter. A reminder for all students to wear approved school hats while walking to and from school, during recess, lunch and during any period of instruction or recreation while outside. The harmful effects of the sun can never be underestimated. Camp Australia’s before and after school care is open every day before and after school. Come join us for some fun activities including art and craft, sport, and construction. We're open from 7:00am until school commences and from 3:15pm until 6:00pm at night. Holiday Club is now available for bookings. We'll be running a holiday club from January 5th until the start of term, within the hours of 7:00am until 6:00pm. There are a lot of fun activities planned, so please contact us for a flier of planned activities and more information on our excursions, visits and other fun activities. Call 0413411834 or visit www.campaustralia.com.au . This is a great item of news too good not to share with the school community. Tracey Ferris, one of our members of the Year 6 teaching team recently participated in the Pan Pacific Masters Calisthenics competitions. Tracey was just a tad excited as she informed me of her gold, silver and bronze medal achievement. Congratulations to Tracey and thank you for sharing your medals. Remember to read with your child every evening and ensure your child arrives at school on time each day to commence their learning. Congratulations to Mrs Tara Stubbs who recently gave birth to a baby boy, Spencer Patrick. Both Tara and Spencer are well. The school will be adding a photo of Spencer to our ‘baby photo wall’ in the staff room. Chad (Year 1B) and Shenelle (Year 3B) recently entered into a colouring completion to celebrate the launch of the Recycling Calendar and National Recycling Week. Both Chad and Shell achieved success and were invited to an afternoon tea of celebration with City of Casey Mayor Mick Moyland and representatives from VISY. Kind regards Garry & Staff From the Welfare Officer Adopt a Family for Christmas A whole school community appeal Many people take a big family lunch or dinner on Christmas day for granted. However there are many people who can’t afford to have either of these, so this is where the community of Cranbourne East Primary School can assist. The idea of this program is to make a donation of collected non-perishable groceries in the form of hampers, to local families in need this Christmas. With the assistance of the local Salvation Army and Bunnings we would like to help families in the community. Each Learning Neighbourhood will have a basket assigned to a family. Children are asked to place their donation in the basket. The children will decorate the basket prior to it being collected and delivered to the families. We are requesting that our school community donate NON PERISHABLE food items between now and 9th December to contribute to the Christmas basket. Ideally goods for the basket could be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. So when you do your weekly shopping, start adding an extras can of tinned food, a box of cereal, bag of sweets etc., and put it aside for the basket. In no time our community will have contributed to supplying enough food to make a struggling families Christmas meals possible. The baskets will be collected from our school and distributed by the Salvation Army. *Please ensure that food items use-by date is current for Christmas time and weeks after* THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT Mrs Kathy Jones Assistant Principal 2015 BOOKLIST ORDERS Don’t forget to place your online booklist orders before December 19th 2014. Orders placed after this date will incur a late delivery fee. Reminder: There is no EMA in 2015. If you are experiencing financial hardship contact the office prior to the end of the school year to make payment arrangements. If online orders are not placed, or you have not made payment arrangements with the school, your child will not receive a book pack.
