Primary Job Purpose Deliver high level physiology support to Australia’s best Swimmers as well as initiate the advancement and application of scientific knowledge for the Swimming Australia Limited (SAL) high performance centres of excellence based on the Gold Coast. Job Responsibilities 1. In consultation with the head coaches and SAL high performance 2. 3. 4. 5. managers, implement the organisational strategic agenda to achieve section and business outcomes. This includes: Providing world-leading physiology assistance to SAL coaches and their athletes Planning and conducting innovative applied research Growing capacity by mentoring PhD scholars and coaches Assist in the development and implementation of sustainable business development plans, strategies and systems. For instance developing individual athlete performance plans integrated within the SAL performance plan. Within established policy parameters, provide overall scientific management responsibility for the performance of the National SAL prioritised athletes on the world stage ensuring high level judgement, decision making and advice to deliver effective people management that motivates employees and optimises both individual and team performance. Actively promote and role model the ASC values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Teamwork, and contribute to positive organisational change, effective communication, and continuous improvement at the ASC. Work collaboratively as part of a high performing team/organisation, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal and/or external stakeholders to identify, lead and deliver high quality business outcomes. 6. Deliver quality advice and reporting on relevant issues to the head SAL coaches and senior management. People Management No direct reports, however provide coaching and mentoring to other staff/students as required. Budget Management No direct responsibility; however assist in the development of Section/Program budgets in conjunction with the head coach and responsibly utilise a modest discretionary / operational budget. JOB HOLDER CAPABILITIES Qualifications and Experience Knowledge and Skills Personal Attributes PhD and demonstrated experience working with elite coaches and athletes. (Experience working with Swimmers preferred). Demonstrated record of providing research leadership and management to achieve high personal and team performance and meet organisational and business objectives. Demonstrated capacity to provide timely, compelling and concise advice to inform head coach and senior management to support decision making. Demonstrated experience in managing financial resources, risk management, business planning and strategy development. Experience delivering cultural change through influence, scientific research and using innovative techniques. High level strategic and scientific thinking skills, including the ability to: o Analyse and identify issues and organisation-wide implications and propose solutions; and o Harness complex data, identify critical gaps and assess the value of data to identify and develop opportunities for performance gain. Experience working in high performance sport and understanding of the Australian sports system Highly developed communication skills (including interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and representation) and a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships both internally and externally with a diverse range of stakeholders. Demonstrated scientific acumen, planning and management skills and the ability to identify and achieve work objectives within an often fast-moving environment. Demonstrated commitment, drive and initiative, with the ability to work independently and inter-dependently as a productive leader and manager. Demonstrated capacity to cooperate and work well with others in a crossfunctional environment to pursue team goals, share information, support others, show consideration and respect for alternate ideas and solutions. Ability to travel with teams both nationally and internationally for up to several months per year. Ability to work outside normal working hours as required. Note: The ability to obtain (and maintain) clearance/s to work with children is an essential component of this role and continued employment.
