Back to school, in a way: Dr. Rod Fair is master of ceremonies on Friday night at the
Armory, where the Brighton High School Class of 1974 held its 40th reunion. School
starts this week in School District 27J and police warn motorists to drive carefully,
because more children will be headed to and from school.

its trained federal employees are
working in the Brighton community,
conducting “a variety of ongoing
household surveys by telephone, mail
and in-person interviews.

The letter to the Police Department
stated: “The work conducted by our
Field Representatives is not solicitation and is for the sole purpose of carrying out governmental survey
work.”
The letter also stated that all persons representing the Census Bureau
must show to respondents an official
credential of the United States of
America, Department of Commerce,
U.S. Census Bureau.
“We conduct many surveys
throughout the month, every month,
not just every 10 years.”
The Police Department has a list of
six field representatives whom the
Census Bureau expects to work in the
Brighton area.

Funeral Notices
Virginia I. Jorgensen, 78, (nee Schissler) died in Denver
Aug. 9. Survivors include daughter Diane Stephens;
granddaughters Rebecca and Sarah Stephens, Lakewood; brother Jacob Schissler, Brighton; and sister-in-law
Georgia Schissler, Brighton. She was preceded in death
by husband Gerald Jorgensen; siblings Evelyn Burdick,
Edward Schissler, Elmer Schissler and Vernon Schissler.
At her request, there will be no services. Donations may

Henry Saburo Katayama, 84, died Aug. 12. He was born
to Murano and Soichi Katayama in Brighton, the sixth of
eight siblings. Hank grew up farming in Brighton and
graduated from Brighton High School. He married
Sachiko Matsushima in 1956. Hank was an accomplished
gardener for many years before taking a job at United
Airlines at Stapleton Airport, where he was employed for
36 years. During that time, Hank and Sach kept extremely
busy with their sons, Danny, Andy and Derrick. Hank
taught his three boys the Katayama family values. Among
them were the importance of spending time with family,
keeping your eye on the ball, and how to always pick up
the check. Hank’s tutelage did not stop with his own children. Hank and Sach also took great pride in spoiling their
grandchildren: Katelyn, Addie, Kobe, and Kai.
Ronald L. Trent, 66, of Brighton, died Aug. 12. Visitation,
5-7 p.m. today. Funeral service, 11 a.m., Tuesday; all at
Tabor-Rice Funeral Home; graveside service, 2:30 p.m. at

Colton Curtis Blocker, 15, of Brighton, died Aug. 10.
