This pocket guide will help you find your way during our expansion process. Very recent changes to the
hospital may not be reflected in this guide. Your Ambassador can give you an up-to-date map—just dial
ext. 28 from any hospital phone.
Activities for Patients and Families
Activities for patients and their families are listed in the Hospital Happenings newsletter that should be
posted on the door of each patient room. The newsletter is also available at Volunteer Services on the
first floor, or call ext. 56180 for a copy.
Activity Centers
There are many activity centers in the hospital. Each has board/video games, toys, and arts and
crafts supplies. Organized events (bingo, pet visitation, arts and crafts, etc.) take place on the first
floor. A calendar of these events is in the activity centers and the Hospital Happenings newsletter.
Ambassador Assistance—Call 28
For questions or assistance with any nonmedical issues, you can reach a hospital Ambassador
by dialing ext. 28 from any hospital phone.
Ambassador service is available:
Monday to Friday
6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday
8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
If no one is available to take your call, please leave a message with your room number and a time to call
back. If you have an urgent need outside these times, please speak with your nurse.
Ambassadors help:
– Answer questions about the hospital and surrounding areas.
– Assist with malfunctioning nonmedical equipment (e.g., TV, VCR, bed, lights, restrooms).
– Find a staff person to help clean your room or bathroom outside regularly scheduled times.
– Find people, places and things in the hospital.
– Take care of any other nonmedical needs.
Please note: Ambassador assistance is not for medical advice or quality-of-care issues.
For these questions, please speak with your nurse or physician.
ATM
A Wachovia ATM is on the first floor of the hospital. It takes major bank and credit cards.
Bathrooms and Showers

Computers/Internet Access
About Personal Laptop Computers
The hospital is a wireless hotspot, so wireless devices can connect to the Internet.

– An access code is needed to connect to the Internet while in the hospital—the access code is
choawireless (see below for instructions).
– Please call the Children’s Solution Center at ext. 56767 or visit the Family Library on the fourth floor
if you need further assistance.
– For your convenience, there are computers with Internet access in the Parent Business Center.

Netgear, etc.), you may have to consult their documentation.
These instructions apply to wireless laptops, tablets, etc. running Windows XP Service Pack 1 or later:
– Click on Start>Settings>Network Connections.
– Right click on Wireless Network Connections and select Properties.
– Select the Wireless Networks tab.*
– Select the Association tab.
To configure:
– Enter network name (SSID): choawireless
– Choose network authentication: Open
– Choose data encryption: Disabled
– Click OK to close all windows to get back to Windows Network Connection Properties on the
Wireless Networks tab.
– Make sure choawireless is at the top of the list of Preferred Networks.
– Click OK to save changes.
The wireless adapter will automatically connect to choawireless (you may need to reboot your PC if
you were already connected to the wireless network). If you need further assistance, call the Children’s
Solution Center at ext. 56767, or visit the Family Library on the fourth floor.
*There may not be a Wireless Networks tab if you have any third-party utilities managing the wireless
