Our Ref: #1120895 GPC apprentices and trainees recognised for achievements in 2014 16 December 2014 The achievements of Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) apprentices and trainees were recognised at GPC’s annual awards ceremony, held last week at the Gladstone Campus of Central Queensland University. GPC is renowned for its commitment to the education and development of youth in Gladstone and has a positive reputation within the community for producing highly skilled and award-winning apprentices and trainees. The efforts of over 56 apprentices and trainees were acknowledged during the evening with awards presented to those who have excelled in their chosen fields. Fourth year electrical apprentice, Jeffrey Dodds was appointed GPC Apprentice/Trainee of the Year for his dedication to his training, professional manner, skill and reliability. Before presenting the awards, GPC Chief Executive Officer, Craig Doyle spoke about the importance of knowledge transfer and skill development. “GPC’s program has a strong focus on knowledge transfer from our experienced mentors to ensure the development and success of our apprentices and trainees,” Mr Doyle said. “This year, several of our apprentices have received prestigious external awards and competed successfully in various industry competitions. This is a credit to them as well as to their mentors, team members and families.” Several unique elements contribute to the success of GPC’s program including scheduled area rotations, quarterly performance appraisals, additional training and a dedicated support network. One of the most valuable components of the program is the mentoring that apprentices and trainees receive through assigned skilled supervisors and trade mentors. The program also provides apprentices and trainees with the opportunity to work on a number of different projects and with a range of equipment, allowing them to gain invaluable experience to prepare for their future.
