Last Week: we welcomed Year 6 from Our Lady and St Patrick’s, Maryport to class 3 to share with us the work that they’d done for RE week and we in turn shared our work with them. The visit was a great success with good opportunities for the children to learn from each other, mix and meet; especially as we look toward them moving on to secondary school. As a small school our staff in particular welcomed the chance to share good practice and ideas. We hope to nurture this link and plan further exchanges. This Week: Our year 3/4 Quicksticks hockey team, having won the Cockermouth area schools tournament went forward to the Allerdale final held this week. The children were very excited at the prospect and thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. We didn’t win this time but were still full of enthusiasm for the game and are keen to compete in the future. Cockermouth Music Society visited school and gave us our own private recital. I was delighted with the response from the children; it was so obvious the enjoyment they got from hearing live music. The musicians spoke very highly of our children and were most impressed with their singing; the big finale being ‘Let it Go’ from Frozen. Section 48 RE Inspection: we are due to have our RE inspection from the diocese this term. Included in the criteria for inspection is ‘community links’. We would welcome you comments on our school parish links. These can be in the form of a letter addressed to either the school or if you’d prefer directly to the inspection team. We hope some of you will find the time to do this, to date I’ve received no letters or comments. In the southern states of America there are many churches known as "answer back" churches. When the preacher says something, the congregation naturally replies. One Sunday, a preacher was speaking on what it would take for the church to become better. He said "If this church is to become better, it must take up its bed and walk." The congregation said, "Let it walk, Preacher, let it walk." Encouraged by their response, he went further. "If this church is going to become better, it will have to throw aside its hindrances and run!" The congregation replied, "Let it run, Preacher, let it run!" Now really into his message, he spoke more strongly. "If this church really wants to become great, it will have to take up its wings and fly!" "Let it fly, Preacher, let it fly!" the congregation shouted. The preacher’s voice got louder. "If this church is going to fly, it will cost money!" The congregation replied. "Let it walk, Preacher, let it walk." Bulletin Notices (deadline Thursday) - Please send to Barbara Cunliffe Email: [email protected] Tel: 01900 822664 PLEASE KEEP NOTICES BRIEF.
