The Sacrament of Reconciliation:
Fr. John will be available to hear confessions from 3:45-4:15
p.m. every Saturday at the church that has the 4:30 p.m.
Mass. The other times for the sacrament of reconciliation are
as follows:
St. Mary Church, Glen Haven– 7:40-7:50 p.m. on Saturday
evenings;
St. John’s Church, Patch Grove-7:40-7:50 a.m. on Sunday
mornings;
St. Mary Church, Bloomington-7:30 –7:50 a.m. every Thurs.
Baptism:
May God bless our new parents! Please contact Fr. John to
schedule the baptism of your child at your church and to
attend a baptismal preparation session.
Marriage:
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Please call
Fr. John at least six months in advance of the wedding. One
of the parties must be a practicing Catholic.
Anointing of the Sick:
Whenever someone is seriously ill, hospitalized, or is dying,
please contact the Bloomington parish office immediately. If
you or someone you know is sick and would like to be
included in the Mass prayers, please call the parish office.
Vocations:
Please contact Fr. John if you or someone you know would
like to learn more about becoming a priest, brother, sister,
deacon, or lay church minister. Please pray for more
vocations to the priesthood and all religious ministries!!!

ST. MARY’S FISH FRY:
Everyone is invited to attend St. Mary’s Fish
Fry next Friday, February 27. Plan to gather
with your family and friends to enjoy the
delicious baked and fried Cod Fish Dinner which will
be served from 4:45 to 7:30 p.m. Carry-outs are
available.
The evening will also include a fabulous raffle
with over 70 held in conjunction with the Catholic
Financial Life Branch #34. THANK YOU to the
businesses and individuals who have generously
donated raffle prizes.
Knights of Columbus News:
Tickets for the KC State Charity Raffle are on sale.
Proceeds from this fundraiser support grants to help families in
Wisconsin who are struck with disasters such as fires, storms, sickness, etc. We have extra tickets available—if you would like some
more to buy or sell, contact Joe Breuer.
We start the Lenten season with ashes in a sign of the
cross on our foreheads to remind us of our own mortality.
And in this, we remember that our Savior has shared our
suffering and death through his cross and we hope to share
in his resurrection.
The forty days of Lent include many religious practices and themes for us to participate in:
Lenten Prayer in the Parishes:
This year I have decided to have a regular Lenten
prayer and devotions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evenings at
each church except during Holy Week when it will be at 7:30
p.m. on Wednesday. Our prayer time will begin with the
Stations of the Cross and Benediction with a reflection and
short time of silent adoration. I hope everyone will be able to
attend at least once and hopefully every week. It is a simple,
but powerful way to draw closer to God this Lent.
Fasting:
Let us give up something for Lent that will remind us
that we are in Lent and a sacrifice is offered for what is wrong
in our world and with us.
How about giving up POP or BEER or
as your sacrifice and then giving the money that you would
have spent on those items to help those in need.
Almsgiving:
Daily we hear of violence in the world especially
against Christians and religious minorities in Middle Eastern
countries. Catholic Relief Services offers us a way to support
those who are in great need of basic necessities through
donation to the Rice Bowl campaign. This Lent let us be
generous in our almsgiving as we remember to help those who
are the poorest and most in need.

Parish Events– THINK SPRING:
It seems like winter will never end and we are
dreaming of spring. So to help drive away the winter
blues, I invite everyone to attend the upcoming parish
events along with the Lenten activities. St. Mary’s Fish
Fry will take place next Friday, February 27, from 4:457:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, March 22, St. Mary’s Parish is
hosting their 2nd Annual Variety Show. St. Charles Fish
Fry is scheduled for Friday, March 27 and the Dueling
Pianos fundraising event for St. Charles will take place on
April 11, at J&J’s Sandbar in Cassville.
Please tell your family and friends about our great
events and please be generous with your participation and
help to make them successful.
World Day of Prayer:
All are welcome (men, women, and teens) to join us for
an hour of prayer for our world at St. Charles School Gym
at 6:30 p.m. on March 5, with refreshments to follow.

ST. MARY’S SCHOOL NEWS:
Our vision: Faith, Family and Academic Excellence.
Lent is a special and holy time in our school year. We
celebrate Mardi Gras with a wagon parade in our gym
followed by the burial of Alleluia. Each Friday afternoon we
mark the Stations of the Cross. Our third and fourth graders
enact the Passion of Christ before our Easter break. The parish is
invited to participate with us on our Lenten journey as a school.
Tell your friends about St. Mary's and encourage them to
consider a school where faith, family and academic excellence or
offered each day. It's a great time to register your children for St.
Mary School. We offer small classes of faith based instruction to
students who will be four years old and older by September
2015. We have classes for students in 4K thru 8th grade. Our excellent teachers support families and students with a spirit of cooperation

SCRIP: Winter is here and SCRIP gift cards are a great way
to do your shopping. There are a wide variety of SCRIP gift cards
from local and national businesses. The SCRIP program is online.

St. Mary’s Redecoration Fund:
We are very grateful for the generous
donations for the redecoration of St. Mary’s
Church. We have received $16,995.00 in
contributions plus $5,200.00 in pledges for
the project. With these funds and $15,000 from parish
savings, St. Mary’s Redecoration Fund already has over
one-half of the $70,000 goal to complete the project. Please
contact Fr. John or a parish council for more information about
the redecoration project or to make a donation.

Reflection: “After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee
proclaiming the gospel of God….” – Mark 1:14
Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for
Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had just been
arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken great love and trust for Jesus to do
what the Father had sent Him here on earth to do. In the same
way, following a life of stewardship takes great love and trust
from us. We must be willing to surrender completely to God,
trusting that God will always give us all that we need to fulfill
His plan for us.

First Sunday of Lent
Celebrate Life:
Today’s first reading speaks to us of Noah’s Ark. The
flood that God sent upon the world in Noah’s day was a
cleansing of evil. Now, God cleanses us not by floods, but by the
waters of baptism, which bring to us a whole new kind of life: the life
of God within us. Our special efforts in Lent to come closer to God
are a response to what has already happened to us! Because we have
received the new life of God, we have to reform our lives and live as
his sons and daughters. We have to become who we already are. The
holy water we use when we come in and out of Church is a reminder
of the cleansing waters of baptism, and a reminder of the new life we
are called to live.
God is a God of life, and therefore we are the People of
Life. This Lent, let’s look for ways to foster respect for life, especially
the sick, the disabled, and the unborn.

BLOOMINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT’S
CHILI SUPPER:
Everyone is invited to attend the Bloomington Fire
Department’s Chili Supper and Bake Sale on Saturday, Feb.
21, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Bloomington Fire Station.
They will be serving Culver’s Chili, Ma’s Bakery Cinnamon
Rolls and beverage. The cost is $8.00 per person. Afterward
take home some tasty treats from the Bake Sale. The proceeds
will go toward an ATV 6-wheeler.
Anyone who would like to donate items for the Bake
Sale may drop their baked goods off at the Bloomington Fire
Station by noon on Saturday, February 21.
