Baptism Preparation: A family interview with the
priest is required prior to any arrangement for the
baptism of a child. Baptismal Instruction is
obligatory for both parents.
Wedding Arrangements: Couples contemplating
marriage should contact a priest at least six
months prior to the date chosen. Couples who
are planning to be married at Canadian Martyrs
Catholic Parish are expected to regularly worship
with this Parish Community and to participate in a
Marriage Preparation Program.
Teacher’s Profession of Faith: Teachers in such
a situation should make themselves known to the
priest of the parish, be registered, regularly
attend Mass at this parish and participate in a
ministry. Teacher should bring their completed
faith form to their interview with the pastor.
Pastoral Health Care Team – welcomes the
opportunity to visit and bring the Eucharist to our

Message from Bishop Fred Henry-Re: Together in Action
2015-There is a story of a little boy who was frightened one
night during a big thunderstorm. Terrified, he called out from
his room, "Daddy, I am scared!" His father, not wanting to get
out of bed, called back, "Don't worry, son. God loves you and
will take care of you."There was a moment of silence. The
little boy said, "I know God loves me, but right now, I need
somebody who has skin on."Sometimes God seems almost
untouchable. We experience the need for something that will
give us the inner strength to cope with life, or peace of mind
and freedom from feelings of fear and anxiety. We sometimes
see ourselves falling apart and in need of something bigger
than ourselves to hold us together. Sometimes we have sense
of being wounded, hurt, broken, and in need of healing. That
is where Jesus comes in. He was God with skin on, walking
among us and showing us what God is like. I think C. S.
Lewis put it well: "The Son of God became a man that men
might become sons of God." As such, we are called to
empower one another to face our present, even if it is arduous,
in the redeeming love of Jesus - to be sons and daughters of
God “with skin on.”This is what Together in Action is all
about. Please give generously. Our target this year is $20,842.

Prayer Chain –What is a gift you can give or receive that
you do not have to pay membership, user fees or taxes? “The
Gift of Giving Prayers” The Prayer Chain is very strong here

Can you keep a secret?
Remember the last time someone “blabbed” your
secrets? Perhaps you were the one to let a story slip out by
accident. How hard it is to keep news to ourselves. We tell
one trusted friend, who shares with just one person and so
on till the story is common knowledge. It seems nothing
can be kept secret, at least not for very long. Good or bad,
happy or sad…we just can’t wait to tell!
So why is God so easy to keep quiet about? Too often
we are strangely silent about the comfort our faith brings.
We keep lips sealed when an opportunity to share the
“Good News” appears, afraid of offending. Commanded
to share our faith, we instead treat it like a shameful secret.
What a contrast to the leper in today’s gospel. Healed
miraculously, he was under strict instructions to “tell no
one” yet he immediately spread the news far and wide. His
infectious disease was replaced by an equally compelling
contagion, enthusiasm for the work of God. It’s a disease
we could all stand to catch. The leper had a story worth

of Calgary invites you to re-discover the meaning of the
sacrament of Reconciliation in your life.
Action: If you are afraid to go to Reconciliation, speak about
your reservations with a priest or someone you know who
does participate in the sacrament.

PENITENTIAL DISCIPLINE
a) Law of the gospel: The Church wants new emphasis
to be given to the evangelical law that a follower of
Christ must do penance. While the heart of penance is
hatred for sin as an offence against God (CSL, no.
109b), external forms of penance are required to
deepen and encourage the internal virtue.
b) Fridays are days of abstinence from meat, but
Catholics may substitute special acts of charity or piety
on this day.
c) Lent: The penitential character of Lent is to be
maintained. On these days penance is to be considered
an important requirement of the Christian life.
Fulfillment of this duty involves prayer, works of piety
and charity, and self-denial by fulfilling one’s
obligations more faithfully and especially by observing
the prescribed fast and abstinence.
d) The paschal fast for Good Friday and Holy Saturday is
described in the notes for Passion (Palm) Sunday. In the
Roman rite, including Canada, Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday are days of fasting and of abstinence from
meat. It is in the best interests of the Church that these
days be proclaimed and practiced in the parish
community as days of true penance. Pastors are to
invite and encourage their people to do special penance
on these two days.The law of abstinence from meat
binds those who are 14 and older; the law of fasting
binds those from 18 to 59 years of age. Parents and
educators are reminded of their duty to introduce
children gradually to the understanding and practice of
penance. Adult example will be the greatest influence
in this matter. Lent is a time for penance and
repentance, for almsgiving and prayer, for working to
change attitudes that are not pleasing to God.

Do We Want To Be Healed? In this wonderful story of the leper healed by Jesus, we have a great teaching about the desire
to be clean, pure, whole. Far too often in life, we’re not really sure that’s what we want, at least not if it takes too much
effort. We muddle through things; we botch things up. Then we sit back, hoping and praying all will somehow "magically"
turn out all right. It raises an important question: “Do we truly want to be healed of the sins and afflictions that hold us back
from a clean relationship with our family, our friends, our God?”
This question can be a harrowing one as the leper who desires healing discovers. True healing does not always come
easily. We must take risks for healing to occur; and we must make some sort of effort. Indeed, there is rarely a "magical"
moment when healing just happens: we must be a pro-active and put forth the effort as Christians to revitalize our lives and
our churches through the power of the Holy Spirit. Are you ready to be healed?
