Steam Powered Bluegrass is a fun group
made up of veterans of the West Michigan
music scene. They are a 5-piece bluegrass
band, consisting of fiddle, guitar, mandolin,
bass, and banjo. They bring that classic bluegrass touch with just a bit of contemporary
cross-over mixed in. They love to pick, sing,
and entertain, and it shows!
Check out our website at

Friends of the Library Book Sale
Saturdays, March 21, April 18, May 23 10AM-1PM | Carnegie Room
Come find amazing treasures and build up your personal library at our
Friends of the Library Book Sale.
You may have heard about some very exciting things happening at the library! The Allegan District Library is dedicated to remaining a dynamic center of learning and a vital asset to the community. To do this we must be proactive in planning and determining how we will meet our resident’s needs 5, 10 and 20 years into the future.
Our Carnegie building and the library’s unique history are important to us. We also wish to maintain a vital presence in downtown Allegan on the Riverfront. In doing so, one major area that we know needs improving is the accessibility into our building.
We’d also love to equip our building with an engaging children's room, a safe area for teens to hang out and private study
rooms for community use. We are working with architects to explore how we will make this all work in our beautiful historic
building.
In 2009, when the District Library was created, the City of Allegan retained ownership of the library building, leasing it for $1 a
year to the District Library. In January, the Allegan City Council graciously agreed to begin the process of transferring ownership
of the library building to the Library District. This step will allow us to move forward with future planning and work.
Community input is very important to us and as part of this project we are actively seeking to understand the collective goals of
the community as well as what the people of Allegan want from their local library.
Please, look out for future opportunities to share in this process. If you have
questions or concerns please feel free to stop into the library to talk with me or
email me at [email protected]. I’d be delighted to chat with you!

helps children easily navigate the digital
terrain, and the interactive programs
invite parent and child to explore all of
this together. The library received the
