THE STATE OF THE STATE LIBRARY SYSTEMS
Many of you are aware of the break down of Illinois Library Systems due to the state’s financial situation. We are a member of the Metropolitan Library System, and while we do not directly receive money from the system, the services it provides are very valuable and the
loss of two major services, delivery and SWAN (online catalog), may have a serious effect on all public libraries. Currently, the funding of
delivery (Interlibrary Loans, holds, etc.) and our online catalog are guaranteed until June 2011 due to current systems receiving their final
2010 payments. Systems have been directed by the State Library to merge from 9 to 2 systems - North and South, with no guarantee of
any future funding. The Board and staff at the Riverside Public Library are being very cautious during this period of uncertainty. We may
have to take on the additional financial responsibilities of delivery and assume total costs for our on-line catalog, and if that occurs, we
may need to address changes in Interlibrary loan and hold limits and costs. We will keep you, the taxpayers, informed of the Library
Systems’ status. While we have no current need to change any of the services at present, we ask that you continue to be responsible in
your Interlibrary loan/hold requests and pick up these materials in a timely fashion. All libraries in the current Metropolitan Library System are dedicated to continue to provide the highest quality of library services possible to all our patrons.

What a year to join the Friends - - the Library is enjoying their 80th
year of service to the community, and the Friends are preparing for
their 80th year of support of the Library by unveiling their new logo!
By making a donation to the Friends, you give them the ability to
make donations to the Riverside Public Library. The Library, in turn,
uses these donations to provide special services, programs and
equipment which benefit all patrons. Friends help friends and everyone wins! This year we are planning a special way of showing our
appreciation of your “friendship” with a FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
Yard Sign for all households that donate. Donate before April and we will deliver your yard sign to
your house after all the election signs are down! As a member of the Friends of the Library, you are
also entitled to special perks that include a $10 savings on our Riverside Afghan and a pass to our
preview night at our Annual Book Sale in September. All contributions to the Friends are tax deductible, and any donation over $50 earns the donor a choice of a premium (umbrella, mug, glasses,
pack of note cards, lunch bag, pen or bookmark). Donations can also be made with major credit
cards or electronic checking through E-Pay on the Library’s website: www.riversidelibrary.org. The

Tax Package Information for Individuals
With the continued growth in electronic filing and to help reduce costs, the IRS will no longer mail
paper tax packages that typically arrive in January of each year. If you still wish to use a paper
form, the IRS has several options available to help you obtain paper copies of individual forms and
instructions, including:
● Accessing forms and instructions online at IRS.gov. You can quickly download the latest products from this site. If you are experiencing a hardship in obtaining paper tax forms, please call
1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676) after January 10, 2011.
● Visiting to your local library – Riverside Public Library will have IRS forms available. The Reference
Librarians will also help you download forms from the IRS.gov website. Copy costs for forms are the
responsibility of the patron.

obtaining a library card for your book club (if you don't have a
book club card, it's a "must-have") and a chance for all to
share the best (and worst!) books you have read. Refreshments provided. Adults and children are welcome; there will
be separate meetings for each. Open to all Library patrons
whether you are part of an established book group or not.

This past November the famous "Chagall Windows" returned to the galleries of The Art Institute of Chicago after a five-year absence. This program examines the career of Marc Chagall, one of the world's
most beloved artists. Art historian and professor Dr. Michelle Paluch-Mishur discusses Chagall's distinctive style and his major themes. some Vietnamese friends. He stayed with their families in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and Tra On, a rural
village about a hundred miles west. His hosts showed
him many "tourist" sites in southern Vietnam as well as
a number of things off the beaten track. During his
presentation, he will offer impressions of the country
along with photos taken during his visit.

2011 Holiday Hours at the Library: We will be closed the following days in 2011: January 1st; Easter Sunday (April 24th );
Mother’s Day (May 8th); Memorial Day (May 30th); July 4th,
Labor Day (September 5th); Thanksgiving (November 24th);
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and December 26th. Any other
closings will be posted on our website and in the Library.
