Dear Parents,
Welcome back after the half term break, we look forward to another busy few
weeks. Thank you to all the parents and staff who very kindly gave up their
morning on Wednesday 18th to help prepare the soil in our walled garden, what a
fantastic start we have made.
Congratulations to the following children who received Scholarships at Colchester
High School: Dillon Anthony - Science Scholarship, Rosie Keane - Drama
Scholarship and Owen Higginson - Academic Scholarship.
HEADTEACHER’S AWARD - The award this week went to Charlotte Venn.
Congratulations to Grace Whiteford, Patrick Flitter, Natasha Adkins, Dillan
Bunting, Freddie Keane, Charlotte Venn, Amelia Carter, Rosie Keane and Lily
Barnes who all received a ‘Cool to be Kind’ award this week for donating money to
other children so that they could buy a pancake for charity. Also, congratulations to
Joseph Ashworth for voluntary work he undertook at an Elderly Link Club.
ENGLISH SPEAKING BOARD EXAMINATION RESULTS - We are
delighted to inform you that once again our E.S.B. results were outstanding. In all,
the children achieved 7 Distinctions, 12 Merit Plus endorsed, 1 Good Pass endorsed
and 2 Merit. Well done indeed to all the Children who entered the exam.
HOUSE QUIZ AT THOMAS COOK - MRS CLARK - On Wednesday, pupils
from Forms 5 and 6 were invited to Thomas Cook
travel agents to take part in a quiz relating to their
house. Each group had to locate information in
travel brochures for Australia, Canada and New
Zealand identifying famous landmarks, flight
times and National Parks. The children were then
shown how to book a holiday to a country of their
choice. The children were exceptionally well
behaved and a real credit to the school.
LIFE SUPPORT ROADSHOW FORM 5 AND 6 - MRS CLARK
On Thursday as part of the PSHCE, Science and PE curriculum, the children in
Forms 5 & 6 took part in the Life Support Road Show, organised by Maldon
District Council. Following on from the training they received last year, the
pupils learnt how to resuscitate children and babies using different techniques
and practising on life size dummies. The children really enjoyed the hands on
experience allowing them to fully participate and understand the importance of
CPR. All of the children felt more confident that in a real life situation they
would remember the important steps they would need to follow.
FORM 2 CHEERLEADING - MRS BARON - On Thursday Form 2 went to the Plume
School to take part in a Cheer Leading Workshop. The children had to follow a dance routine
and then had to perform a ‘formation lift’ involving five children. The children had a marvelous
time despite there not being a pom-pom in sight!
PE - MR BELLHAM - The Pope and Smith Chelmsford Cross Country league final positions
have been received and our top performers this year were our Form 5
boys team who finished in 3rd place overall which is a good position
for our team which had many Form 3 and 4s competing. The Form 5
girls were 5th and the Form 6 boys finished in 7th place.
At the end of the fencing unit of work in PE there was an inter house
competition which was won by Canada followed by New Zealand and Australia. The winner
of the individual competition was George Clark from Form 5.
FORM 6 - PANCAKE SALE - MRS SUMMERS - Form 6 pupils William, Max, Alex, Owen and Lucas held a
hugely successful pancake sale during Tuesday playtime at the ‘Pancake Shack’. They raised a tremendous £77.66
through their efforts and had a lot of fun at the same time. The pancakes were in great demand and made a lovely midmorning treat for everybody. Many thanks to the parents who baked or bought pancakes for us to sell, and to everybody
who supported us by buying a pancake. All money raised will be donated to
Cancer Research UK which was the charity selected by the children in Form
6. Look out for the colouring competition, lunch time dance and computer
games time which will be happening in the next couple of weeks. All these
fund raising activities are being planned, organised and run by the children to
support our chosen charity.
