Thank you to all the parents and staff who very kindly gave up their morning on Wednesday 18th to help prepare the soil in our walled garden, what a fantastic start we have made. Congratulations to the following children who received Scholarships at Colchester High School: Dillon Anthony - Science Scholarship, Rosie Keane - Drama Scholarship and Owen Higginson - Academic Scholarship. HEADTEACHER’S AWARD - The award this week went to Charlotte Venn. Congratulations to Grace Whiteford, Patrick Flitter, Natasha Adkins, Dillan Bunting, Freddie Keane, Charlotte Venn, Amelia Carter, Rosie Keane and Lily Barnes who all received a ‘Cool to be Kind’ award this week for donating money to other children so that they could buy a pancake for charity. Also, congratulations to Joseph Ashworth for voluntary work he undertook at an Elderly Link Club. ENGLISH SPEAKING BOARD EXAMINATION RESULTS - We are delighted to inform you that once again our E.S.B. results were outstanding. In all, the children achieved 7 Distinctions, 12 Merit Plus endorsed, 1 Good Pass endorsed and 2 Merit. Well done indeed to all the Children who entered the exam. HOUSE QUIZ AT THOMAS COOK - MRS CLARK - On Wednesday, pupils from Forms 5 and 6 were invited to Thomas Cook travel agents to take part in a quiz relating to their house. Each group had to locate information in travel brochures for Australia, Canada and New Zealand identifying famous landmarks, flight times and National Parks. The children were then shown how to book a holiday to a country of their choice. The children were exceptionally well behaved and a real credit to the school. LIFE SUPPORT ROADSHOW FORM 5 AND 6 - MRS CLARK On Thursday as part of the PSHCE, Science and PE curriculum, the children in Forms 5 & 6 took part in the Life Support Road Show, organised by Maldon District Council. Following on from the training they received last year, the pupils learnt how to resuscitate children and babies using different techniques and practising on life size dummies. The children really enjoyed the hands on experience allowing them to fully participate and understand the importance of CPR. All of the children felt more confident that in a real life situation they would remember the important steps they would need to follow. FORM 2 CHEERLEADING - MRS BARON - On Thursday Form 2 went to the Plume School to take part in a Cheer Leading Workshop. The children had to follow a dance routine and then had to perform a ‘formation lift’ involving five children. The children had a marvelous time despite there not being a pom-pom in sight! PE - MR BELLHAM - The Pope and Smith Chelmsford Cross Country league final positions have been received and our top performers this year were our Form 5 boys team who finished in 3rd place overall which is a good position for our team which had many Form 3 and 4s competing. The Form 5 girls were 5th and the Form 6 boys finished in 7th place. At the end of the fencing unit of work in PE there was an inter house competition which was won by Canada followed by New Zealand and Australia. The winner of the individual competition was George Clark from Form 5. FORM 6 - PANCAKE SALE - MRS SUMMERS - Form 6 pupils William, Max, Alex, Owen and Lucas held a hugely successful pancake sale during Tuesday playtime at the ‘Pancake Shack’. They raised a tremendous £77.66 through their efforts and had a lot of fun at the same time. The pancakes were in great demand and made a lovely midmorning treat for everybody. Many thanks to the parents who baked or bought pancakes for us to sell, and to everybody who supported us by buying a pancake. All money raised will be donated to Cancer Research UK which was the charity selected by the children in Form 6. Look out for the colouring competition, lunch time dance and computer games time which will be happening in the next couple of weeks. All these fund raising activities are being planned, organised and run by the children to support our chosen charity. WALLED GARDEN MEETING - MRS BARON NEXT WEEK’S MENU We are currently awaiting click together borders so that we Chicken casserole, Homemade may set out plots for each class; when these arrive we will be Monday potato croquettes and shortbread fingers looking for willing volunteers to put them in place and country mixed prepare the soil. In the meantime, if anyone has any spare vegetables tools, gardening equipment or seeds that they would like to donate please email Mrs Baron; please do not bring them Tuesday Bolognaise pasta Chocolate into school as we do not know what we need yet or have bake, garlic bread and pudding and anywhere to store them. Wednesday Cumberland sausages, Sugar ring FRIENDS OF MCS - MRS HENDERSON Yorkshire pudding, doughnuts Form 2 Cake Sale & Uniform Sale - A big thank you for mashed potato, fresh all the wonderful cakes that were sent in. Thanks also to Broccoli and gravy those who helped with the sale. £92 was raised from cake sale which will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
