CARLTON FOOTBALL CLUB VISIT
PREP POLICE VISIT
On Wednesday, May 6th, four Carlton Football Club
players visited 4B – taking them through some
football drills. The players were Patrick Cripps (#9),
Andrejs Everitt (#33), Chris Yarran (#13) and Dillon
Viojo-Rainbow (#16).
This week the Preps had a visit from the local Police.
They are learning about the services provided to the
community by a range of professionals.
Each of the visits focusses on teaching the children
how to keep themselves and others safe. The
students engage in role plays after the visit and
write about it during literacy.

According to adolescent psychologist, Andrew Fuller, resiliency is the happy knack of being able to bungy
jump through the pitfalls of life.
The resilient child has:
 Social competence
 Problem-solving skills
 Autonomy
 A sense of purpose and future
Chris’ presentation provides practical strategies to assist parents to help their children develop these characteristics
This highly interactive and engaging presentation will provide an overview of the recent research in the area of
resilience. It will provide an opportunity to identify and learn about the positive factors that build resilience. It will
enable parents to consider ways of increasing and maximizing the protective factors for children and adolescents.
Chris is a highly sought after, dynamic and engaging presenter. She is a Training & Development Consultant with a
background in teaching and social work. She is currently actively involved in the tertiary sector, teaching students in
the Bachelor of Social Work and the Graduate Diploma of Student Welfare at Melbourne University.

LOST PROPERTY
URGENT HELP FOR NEPAL
Given the blast of winter weather lost property is
now overflowing with jumpers and jackets which get
shed as children warm up during the day. It seems
that given the sudden cold snap that many families
have not had a chance to label their winter clothing.
Please either use an iron-on label or alternately a pen
or better still laundry marker to write your child's
name on the label. All labelled items are returned
through the front office to their owners.
Thanks to all those who have contributed to the
collection of items for Nepal. A container of items
The Lost Property team
has already been delivered and distributed.
Any further donations are required by
Friday 8th
May, in order to meet the final scheduled departure
date.
On behalf of the Nepalese community, thank you
once again for your kind assistance.

Deanne

The Nepalese community here in Melbourne are
seeking assistance with providing essential items to
people in Nepal.
They have already arranged transport of all donated
items and would appreciate any of the below
mentioned items as soon as possible.
They are collecting warm/waterproof jackets,
blankets, tents, pads, first aid kits, chlorine tabs,
protein bars, sleeping bags, torch lights, thongs,
hand sanitizers, insect repellents and other essential
items to send to Nepal. They are also in need of
baby items such as bottles, formula, nappies and
clothing. The situation is very bad and they already
have people there who are making sure that the
donated materials are going to the neediest.
If you are able to donate any items from the list,
please bring to the school and drop in the tub near
the front office.
Should you have any questions regarding items to
donate, please contact Deanne 0414 240 603.

Sadly we say farewell to another staff member Jack who has been a
part of the OSHC team for over 7 years. Jack has obtained a position
in his chosen field of Architecture and will be commencing this week.
We thank Jack for all his hard work, dedication to the job and
amazing sporting skills. You will be sadly missed by all. Good luck for
the future.
PREP AND GRADE 1 BAGS NOW IN THE HALL NOT FOYER:
So that we can better supervise the younger children the Preps and
Grade 1 children must now leave their bags inside the hall NOT in the
foyer on hooks. We were finding that the younger children constantly
need to go to their bags and by having them in the hall we can
supervise them at all times. Grade 4, 5 and 6 children can now leave
their bags on the hooks in the foyer.
DON’T FORGET TO CHECK OUT OUR “WHATS ON BOARD AND EVALUATION DISPLAY” AND
OUR DISPLAY BOOKS LOCATED ON THE TABLE NEAR THE SIGN IN/OUT AREA TO SEE THE

Wednesday 27th May at 11am children across the country will be enjoying the same book in
the 15th Annual National Simultaneous Storytime. This event aims to encourage more young
Australians to read and enjoy books as well as promoting the value of literacy using an
Australian children’s book. In 2015 the book is The Brothers Quibble by Aaron Blabey.
Yarra libraries is very excited to be involved in this wonderful event by hosting a storytime in
the Darling Gardens from 10:30am – 11:30am including of course the reading of The
Brothers Quibble at exactly 11am.
We would love it if your younger classes could join us for this event. We would be happy for
the children to bring a snack and enjoy their recess while listening to our fun and engaging
storytime.
Please RSVP your attendance to this event to either Lizzie or Bridget by Wednesday 20th
May. We hope you can join us.
Many thanks,
Bridget Gray
