Second Sunday of Easter
My Lord and My God!
Today’s Gospel of John (Jn 20:19-31) describes one of the more significant appearances of
Jesus after his resurrection. Remember, he spent forty days with them, because it was of
central importance that they know, beyond all doubt, that he had, indeed, overcome death,
and that he was, indeed, alive. Thomas, like many of us, just refused to believe until he got
some proof, or until someone convinced him that it was true. This is the big moment. Jesus
was more than willing to oblige, because, once again, he did not want any of them to be in
doubt. They were to be his witnesses throughout the world, and they could hardly give any
credible witness if they themselves were unsure. Today, he gives them the gift of Spirit and
inaugurates the mission of the Church, which is the continuance of his own mission.
Divine Mercy
Important Information
A Prayer for Divine Mercy Sunday
Congratulations!!
I would like to congratulate those who
were confirmed at the Easter Vigil and
received into the Catholic Church:
Ben Chapple, Alex Crist, Emily
Crist, Laura Crist and Kristine
Marsico. May God bless each of you
as you continue your life-long journey
of faith! I would like to thank your
sponsors and family members for their
support.
O Lord Jesus Christ, the Mercy of God, You descended into this world to reveal the
Father to us in ways that no one else ever did or ever could. Your message of mercy
is an immense consolation to those struggling in any way and we are renewed in our
prayers by the hope of Divine Mercy. We pray for our world, our community and
our loved ones. You say to us, “Come to Me.” And we say in response, “Jesus, I
trust in You.” Amen.
A Reflection on Divine Mercy Sunday
It was in the year 2000, that Pope John Paul II canonized St. Faustina Kowalska, the
apostle of Divine Mercy, the first saint of the new millennium. It was on this day
that he designated the Second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. The
private revelations given to his this humble young Polish nun have mesmerized
countless numbers of Catholics toward the end of the twentieth century. The
message of Divine Mercy is most consoling in the difficult times in which we live.
The conversation of Christ, the Divine Mercy, with the lost soul in the revelations of
St. Faustina has given great hope to those who have left this life unprepared. The
loving heart of Our Savior calls us all individually to come to the Lord for
forgiveness, healing and salvation. (Fr. Benedict Groeschel)
Two New Saints!
On this day, April 27, in St. Peter’s
Square, Pope Francis will canonize
two new saints: St. John XXIII (1881
-1963) and St. John Paul II (19202005). Our Church is blessed to call
upon these two saints for their guidance and intercession. I encourage
you to read the special insert in today’s bulletin about this historical
canonization. May St. John XXIII and
St. John Paul II pray for us and the
Holy Mother Church!
NEW ALTAR CLOTHS
On behalf of the entire parish, I would like to thank the following individuals for their
recent gift of new Altar cloths for the parish in memory of their loved ones. Because of
their generosity, we were able to purchase beautiful purificators, corporals, pall covers and
hand towels to be used at our Sunday Masses. The cloths are made in Belgium by the
Slabbinck Company. Thank you so very much!

FORFAMILYDISCUSSION
See the website for more discussion questions
Holy Sepulcher School is very excited to be selected to
participate in a program called Sports Matter, sponsored by
DICK’S Sporting Goods. The DICK’S Sporting Goods
Foundation believes in the importance of youth athletics and
has launched the Sports Matter program to address the growing
issue of underfunded youth sports teams. This initiative will
raise awareness and match community donations up to $2
million on a new crowdfunding platform to save teams facing
financial challenges. Holy Sepulcher is hoping to implement a
soccer program. If we raise half of the budget for a school wide
soccer program, the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation will
match the other half. We are only at 4% of our goal of
$4000.00. To make a donation, go to http://dsg.com/0687.
