Dear Parents / Caregivers,
Congratulation to the following 8 students for their selection in Caboolture District teams this week… Charli –
Girls Softball; Liam , Tyler, Rhiley and Luke (Shadow) – U12 Boys Rugby League; Ezekiel – U11 Boys Rugby League;
Reagan – Boys Soccer; and Jorja – Girls Soccer. Well done!
Our Year 5 students celebrated a special Citizenship Awards Parade this morning. I was so pleased to be signing off on
so many awards, and to be recognising so many Principal’s Awards for Year 5. Unfortunately I was not present to share it
with them due to a DET Meeting, but I made sure I visited the Year 5’s to acknowledge their great work during the day.
Thank you to parents and students for a very enjoyable P&C Disco last Friday night, where 344 Prep to Year 6 students
danced away to Mr Firth’s brilliant music selection. Thanks so much to all the parent volunteers and staff volunteers who
helped out on the night. The P&C raised $2,900 from the event that will support every child’s learning at Burpengary.
Moreton Bay Regional Council is organising a very local ANZAC Day March for this Centenary Observance of the
ANZAC landing at Gallipoli on Saturday, April 25. It will commence near Coles and the Parade will head East on Station
Road and turn left into Progress Road, ending at the new Memorial in Progress Road. As the nearest local State school
bearing the great Burpengary name, our school will participate in this local event instead of travelling to Caboolture on
ANZAC Day. I am hopeful that we will have even more Burpengary children participating in this important and historic
event.
Our school observance of ANZAC Day will occur on Friday, April 24 at 9.00am with a very special Prep to Year 6
Parade. This is one of the highlights of the school calendar, and I encourage our families to come and share this very
sacred Centenary observance with us on that day. We have some amazing history to share with you about some important
Burpengary kids!
Casual uniforms have arrived and been distributed by our fantastic Uniform Shop ladies. I am hopeful that the formal
uniforms will arrive next week to ensure that we can commence Term 2 with the full uniform expectations met from Prep
right through to Year 6. I thank the community for your patience, but more importantly for your take up of the new school
uniform – it does look very smart!
Thank you to all families who have taken the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher during our Parent-Teacher
Partnership Meetings this week and next. This partnership is important, and we look forward to your sustained and
continued interest in your child’s education – the research shows clearly that this is an essential aspect for children getting
the best out of their education.
We will conduct our ‘Dress in Orange Day’ to observe the Bullying-No Way message on Monday, 30th March.
Students can participate by adding orange to your school uniform. This can include wigs, ribbons, glasses, socks,
wristbands, shoelaces or stockings, the opportunities are endless, just make sure it is added to your FULL school uniform.
If you choose to participate on the day, a gold coin donation will be required. The Student Councillors will also be selling
orange wristbands in the tuckshop area before school and during both breaks in the lead up to this event. Wristbands will
cost $1.50 and $2.00 each. We hope to see you all with some orange on Monday, 30th March to help us enthusiastically
promote the message that we say, ‘Bullying – No Way!’
Coming up: Burpengary State School Easter Bonnet Parade for Prep to Year 2 will take place on Thursday, April 02,
in the P&C Centre, arriving and seating at 2.00pm and commencing at 2.15pm. All families are welcome to enjoy this
brilliant event!
PLEASE NOTE – this message refers only to special House Competition Days such as Cross-Country and Track &
Field Carnivals….As house shirts are not part of the new uniform and not sold in the uniform shop any more, new children
to the school in Year 4 to 6 will need to dress in a suitable plain shirt of their house colour for the Annual Cross Country
Carnival next Thursday – Sky Blue for Eucalypt, Red for Hibiscus; Green for Forest; and Yellow for Wattle. These
need to be plain-coloured shirts with no slogans or prints, preferably polo shirts with a collar and good sleeves for sun
safety – we recommend the plain-coloured polo shirts that are readily available and inexpensive at Lowes or Big W.
School commences for Term 2 on MONDAY, April 20, 2015.

Library News
We’d like to take this opportunity to promote the School Holiday Activities provided by the Moreton Bay Region
Libraries. There are lots of different competitions as well as theatre performances, drama workshops and even movie
session times. Just go to this link for all the information: https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/subsite.aspx?id=118552
As we move toward the end of the term, we ask for your help in making sure your children return their books on time.
We encourage classes to work as teams to achieve the Zero Hero and Robot awards but it also means that you are
less likely to have to pay for a lost book.
Prep to Yr 3 parents; please remember that your child needs to have a plastic bag if their library bag isn’t waterproof.
If they remove the plastic bag, they will need to replace it before they can borrow again. This ensures that the books
they take home are kept safe from liquid spills or wet school bags from rain. We thank you for your assistance in this
matter.
4. P&C News: The next P&C Meeting will be held in the Staff lounge on Monday night, April 20, which is the first day
back at school for Term 2. All Welcome. The next Parent-Admin Chat Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 21,
commencing at 9.30am in the Staff Lounge.
5. Tuckshop News: Flexischool Meal Deal: Tuesday 31st March – McCain cheese and bacon single serve pizza, mini
hot cross bun and chocolate flavoured milk - $4.50. (Parents please note main food item is first break and snack is
second break). Only available by Flexischool online ordering. Please note Tuckshop is a cash only facility – EFTPOS
is not available. Flexischools Online Ordering www.flexischools.com.au is the preferred option for ordering. Free
to register, quick, easy and convenient. Please ensure you confirm your order on the flexischool website and check
which day order is placed for. Please also advise your child that they are receiving Tuckshop for first and/or second
breaks. Parents please ensure your child only brings a minimal amount of money to school for purchase of a snack
item - less than $2 (no $10 or $20 notes preferred). This lessens the issue of peer pressure to purchase snack items
for friends. HINT – Flexischool orders cost you 25 cents each break. In order to maximise your expense, an order for
a iceblock for second break could be made on first break’s order and student receives an iceblock ticket which is
swapped at second break.
Reminder to families of gluten free options available - toasted white bread sandwich, rice cakes, curried chicken and
rice, fried rice, corn cob, salads.
