A Wave of Refugees in Germany
These images, showing more and more asylum seekers coming to Germany from three
different continents, are now backed by dramatic data as well. The prediction is four hundred
and fifty thousand refugees by the end of two thousand fifteen, in one year and in Germany
alone. Germany, a country that up until a short while ago held the banner of pluralism, faces a
social polarization following this wave of refugees, a wave of incitement against the refugees
on German media followed by a harsh public debate. Meanwhile, despite the harsh data in
vivo, the German government actually demonstrates confidence in (its) ability to deal with the
masses of refugees. But twenty year old Urwa Hatib from Syria doesn’t feel the politicians’
rhetoric; like others, he wants a safe place, a place to sleep, and after despair of the country he
came from, he’s close to being despaired by Germany too.
